All cases get assigned the same format at NVC, whether it's K3 or IR-1/CR-1.

It starts with the three letter embassy code (CRO is Cairo in your case), the next four numbers are the year the case number was assigned (2014 in your case), the next three numbers are the Julian date it was assigned plus 500 (that case number was assigned on May 1st), then the last 3 digits is the sequence in which it was assigned that day at NVC (so, for example, if your last 3 numbers are 013, then your case was the 13th going through that embassy that got assigned a case number that day).

OK, thanks, that's very helpful. That's what I was wondering.

It seems it's for the CR1/IR1 because it accepts it and brings up the case when I enter it into here: https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?eQs=o/iS8zDpeAKjMWCuebHqOw==

Am I correct to think that if the number was for the K3 that it would not come up as "Immigrant Visa" because K3 is not an immigrant visa?

The K3 comes up also as Immigrant Visa in the portal.

The I-129F (K3) gets a case # and IIN assigned right away when it is received at NVC. IF YOU ARE LUCKY, you may get a case # for the I-130 at the same time. LoveMyTico was a lucky one and she got both case #s assigned at the same time.

In most cases, the I-129F gets a case # assigned and is then adminstratively closed in couple of days.

You may have to wait for around a month for the I-130 (IR1/CR1) to get assigned a case #.

Good luck

I hate weekends! Well...I hate the WAITING on weekends!

For those of you who called and found out you had a checklist, how quickly did you get the "official" checklist email?

Sukie

I was told I would receive a checklist on the 14-15th and on the 21st I was told to expect it in 2 days and I just got it LAST NIGHT.

It seems they are a bit delayed. Unless it was just me, maybe? I hope you get it asap, Sukie.

OK, so what I am asking is did the case numbers look the same as far as format for the CR1/IR1 and the K3? Here is what I have. CRO2014621XXX . Last time I called they said they would close out the K3 if they received it the same time as the CR1/IR1, so I'm like 99.9% sure the NVC number is for the immigrant visa. I just thought maybe someone would know the number format K3 NVC numbers take, as I can't find that info online.

my case numbers were exactly the same except the last number. My i130 ends in 003... k3 ends in 004. So they were the third and fourth files logged in for Costa Rica that day. K3 closed 2 days later. It was super unusual to get case numbers assigned the same day as being received. Pure luck... now I'm agonizing over the birth certificate fiasco. This process sucks Edited by LoveMyTico

Unfortunately I didn't get a cool number like that :/

Although, I'm now going to ask my husband to go to the interview dressed like James Bond! I'm sure he could get someone to play the theme when he walks in! :-D

Dear friend, sorry I've been in Brussels for 3 weeks. What I got today is a yellow triangle instead of lock sign. I was waiting for 32 business day till now for IV fee, calling every other day. So I hope it's a good sign and I can pay this fee during the day

Hi, we finally paid yesterday, but received another check list... i spoke with Alex or Alexis in Tuesday, so she was more than kind checked with supervisor, and yesterday, Friday, we received bill, able to pay, and also this check list. So keep calling someone will help you, they're just backlogged with cases.

We received exactly same checklist reminder this morning in Greek. LOL!!!

We had to use Google Translate to read this checklist. We sent the original checklist response same day - April 30th. I guess they do not check emails to remove the checklist and go by date to review.

Ok- interesting about the portal. Hmmm.

But when I called NVC, the first thing that the rep asked for was my USCIS receipt number. I gave her the receipt number from the 1-130 petition that had been approved. She then gave me the NVC case number.

I would think that if the case number she gave me was for the K3, then I would have had to give her the receipt number for the I-129F that was approved.

I can always call again on Monday and double check, but I would think it would be SUPER weird if I gave her the receipt number for the I-130 and the rep gave me the case number related to the I-129F of which I never mentioned the receipt number. I hope I got lucky!

Yes! I think I am going to call on Monday just to double check that the case number I have is for the CR1/IR1 visa. I feel like it's gotta be, because why would they give me a case number for the K3 when the only receipt number I read them was for them was from the I-130 petition. But stranger things have happened!
