Hey msc13, I'm in Sydney, although currently I'm in Philly with my husband for my brother-in-laws wedding. Yes that's correct you won't get a checklist until after you submit your IV documents. So Singapore and HK make you wait until you have a checklist from NVC before you can apply for you police certificates? In that case that will add considerable time onto your process, so my advice would be to get everything ready to send as soon as you get the checklist. My UK police cert only took around 2 weeks mind, which I thought was crazy fast and that included it being sent snail mail to and from the UK. i would hope that Singapore and HK would have reasonably fast turnaround times too? I actually don't know where my Australian police cert is because I applied at the local police station and they really didn't have a clue about what I was asking for or where to send it etc, so I'm not even sure if it will ever get to the consulate in Sydney! They will laugh at me when I go back and tell them I have to get my fingerprints done by them! They think I'm a crazy US visa lady already!!

Hi Donkey81, I live in Sydney as well. I asked Sydney Consulate about the police check before. They said I didn't need the fingerprint check, just the name check. I did it at a local police office, and requested to send me here. Then I included it in the IV package. I didn't have any checklists with it. Have you asked the consulate about the police check?

I want my Case Completed too while they wait for my revised AOS lol. This is interesting. I too wonder if this is common. Congrats by the way! Another step closer.

Thank you. But I am nervous.

They just sent the checklist that was promised (at 1:18am EST)...

My joint sponsor's checklisted items are not there. But my domicile checklisted item still is.

So they gave me case complete even with a major AoS checklist missing.

That's... disturbing. It makes me wonder whether they got my updated package but didn't open it, or did open it and STILL don't find it satisfactory. (Which is insane given that for my updated domicile notice I provided a transfer letter from my company to the USA and a lease on an apartment.) Not knowing makes me wonder whether my wife will be alright at the interview.

Hi all, after reading several posts of the NVC giving people flak for non "Certified" marriage certificates, I'm a little considered about our marriage certificate. We got married in Scotland and on their official certified copy (which we're sending to the NVC) they don't actually say "Certified", but just say "Extract of an Entry in a Register of Marriages" that is "valid only if it has been authenticated by the signature of the district registrar or assistant registrar". It has this signature, as well as the seal of the Edinburgh registrar and "General Registry Office" of Scotland watermark all over the paper. There's nothing raised or stating that it's "Certified". Does anyone foresee us having any problems? I can't really send in that which I don't have or the issuing authority doesn't give you. What does everyone think?

It's fine. The Japan marriage certificate is the same and it was accepted without a problem.

Hello, NVC asks for original or certified copies but not all certified copies will actually show the word "certified". When in doubt about what type of document NVC is expecting, check the Country Reciprocity Page in DOS's website: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country.html#countrydocuments

If your marriage cert. is from Scotland, then you want to choose the UK page to view the requirements for that particular document. Sounds like your form should be ok based on what that page says:

Birth, Adoption, Marriage, and Death Certificates

Scotland: Available. Certificates of births, deaths, marriages and The Adopted Children's Register may be obtained from the Registrar General, New Register House, Edinburgh EH1 3YT, or from the Registrar's Office for the district in which the event occurred. Long-form birth certificates should be obtained as short-form certificates do not contain parents' names.

Good Luck!

I was so sure April would be my last NVC thread.
