I have two questions that I could use some help with (trying to avoid a checklist)...my wife was born in a very small town in Colombia, so keep this in mind.

1. Her parents do not have the original birth certificate. We have an original "re-issue" (for lack of a better term) which was notarized and signed by the official notary of the town who pulled this from the handwritten books. Is this document sufficient for the NVC/DoS?

2. We were married in the Catholic church. I have original documents from the Vicar and the Priest. The Priest is getting the Bishop to write an original document as well. I am being told by my Lawyer that I need a "civil" copy of the marriage when it was registered locally at the towns notary. The Priest says our documents are the official copies, that the church does not register the marriage with the government. A civil marriage in Colombia is when the town notary marries you. What I have read on the web, there should be a religious document as well as a civil document. Not sure what to say?

I will be in Colombia for two weeks in June and need to make sure that I wrap these two items up. Anybody have any real knowledge or experience with the above?

Thanks in advance...

So sorry about the repeats. Regarding religious wedding in Columbia. See link. http://seecolombia.travel/blog/2011/10/getting-married-in-colombia-everything-you-need-to-know/#

It is just like in panama. You must be married civilly ThEN through the church. Immigration only wants the information about the civil marriage registered with the government. My husband and I were married civilly Jan 3 then had a church wedding Jan 5. For immigration purposes my marriage date is jan 3

You know how extremely hard that would be? Especially when those time ticks aren't on timelines. And for those that even have signatures, it's uncommon to see scan dates. Same thing for the checklist dates. It's not on the timeline and not everyone puts in their signature when they send checklist responses.

Saylin, perhaps you misunderstood me. What I meant is that you should add fields in the form in your signature so people who do have a scan date or approval/checklist dates can submit this information to newly created columns in the spreadsheet.

For the first month this would of course not mean much to people currently in the process but afterwards new people can look at those new columns as they get more entries and can begin to predict when they should call to find out if they got a checklist, or not.

Then with that, and with your permission I can develop a free add on/program to predict all stages of NVC process based on inputs a person gives such as scan date or even noa2 for each step. I've strong math experience to create more than simple calculators to take into account standard deviations and other anomalies, but it's not even then that complex. Perhaps if all succeeds you could even create an automated system that allows people to directly input data to spreadsheet and using error checking from program it can send for human verification only potentially erroneous data such as if someone tries to add to spreadsheet a 2004 scan date instead of 2014 or even things that have a threshold that is odd in any way, such as a scan date that is too short or too long compared to average. This would allow spreadsheet to always be updated but still allow you to take care of potentially wrong data.

Why would I do this? I'm bored, and want to give back to Visajourney, your cool guide, for their help in my journey. :P

Always double check your documents and forms. Not only do you get delayed by RFEs and Checklists, but the time it takes for them to review the new items you send could be used to approve more applications. Save yourself and others valuable time!

Current Status: NVC:

Does it really takes 4 to 5 weeks for NVC to receive case from Nebraska?

it takes about a week for them to get it--- and then about 4 weeks to assign a case number--

your question is a little general--RECEIVE - or give a case # is a two step process- and that two step process takes 4- to 5 weeks --

after you get case number assigned the current average to get through the NVC process is 50 some odd days--

and then about another 30 days to get an interview scheduled -- so FROM today if they sent your case to the NVC you are looking at an interview "around"--- 17 weeks from now.. maybe faster maybe slower..

Probably best to wait for your daughter's case complete and use that as your case complete date for your line.

You do it the way you want to-- THANK YOU for all that you do, do....

My only wish is that SOMEONE avoids the same mistake as I did-- in the future because I made the mistake...

MAYBE, it would best represent the situation when you do have two cases to have two lines-- because in actuality my spouse case NEVER got a checklist and was completed from 4/11 to 5/29 - 48 days-- but my other case got a checklist and will take longer--

its really splitting hairs- I JUST WANT TO MOVE ON--- can you tell??

again thanks for all your help you and NLR and anyone and everyone who contributes positive input here-- I KNEW NOTHING about immigration laws two or three years into my marriage-- after children... I wasted a few months trying to get my wife to the USA on a tourist visa-- not understanding the ins and outs--- We were NOT trying to cut corners or MIS- represent anything she would have honored the limitations of that VISA-- but they said ABSOLUTELY NOT-- and I think that is a problem in the system-- I believe to the bottom of my heart that if you have a pending I130 application that you should be allowed to visit with your spouse- and ANY VISA abuse should NEGATIVELY effect your application-- it seems almost CRUEL that I am seperated from my wife and daughters now 900+ days.. working through this---- that said-- I am looking forward and hopefully 45 days away from being DONE with this--forever.....

Cant say enough for those who stay here and help and answer questions- I am not sure I will be that committed--once I am out the other side- we shall see--- its a DAMN SHAME some attorney wanted to charge me $7000 to do this-- only happy I did not fall for that...

THE BEST ADVICE I ever got was right here at this website...

On hold with NVC now. It's only been a week since they "received" my AOS and IV packets. I'm not expecting anything but you never know. Perhaps by the grace of god I could be pleasantly surprised, but I certainly wouldn't hold my breath on that.

Please help! I am so frustrated. I am filling out the ds260 and I am at the part asking for secondary school details. My husband just told me that although he did finish high school and graduated they only show him going through to second year/ sophomore year. He has tried to get this fixed before but they have him run around so much he gave up. Now that I was asking him the details he recalled the issue and says he can go back to his hometown maybe in a month to try to resolve I am just so frustrated I do not

Want to hold up this process any longer . Should I just input that he finished two years at that school and then if he is able to get the issue fixed and get the actual diploma just bring it to the interview

Hahaha! Your reply to your hubby was funny. I'm addicted to Pinterest. As in, my life wouldn't be the same without it. #addictedandproud

Congratulations on the interview date! 2 questions, how soon after CC did they give you the date and did you get the email right away?

I'm on my phone so I don't know if you have a signature. Sorry.

Oi! Thank you! It took exactly one week from CC (5/22) to interview date (5/29). We didn't call to find out about the interview. My husband and the lawyer's office received an email with a letter dated 5/29. That was mid-afternoon Pacific time.
