Hi VJ folks,

I'm somewhat confused here. Been reading some post regarding AOS but I haven't got the clarification that I need.

My husband's income doesn't meet the guideline so he needs a joint sponsor for the affidavit of support. He's brother volunteered to be his joint sponsor, however he will not be living in the same house with them next month. My question is, will he (brother) be filling up i184 or just the 184a form?

Hi VJ folks,

[...]

Sorry for the mess. I'm not sure why it posted that way.

My opinion is that the brother fills out an I864.

And maybe you hit the post button too many times :P ... it only takes one click :D

Hello everyone !! I'm pretty sure its been answered here before but can you please explain things to me like I'm 5 years old :)

1. My petition was approved by uscis for my wife and two kids(3 people)last week . Will NVC give me 3 case numbers or just 1 for the whole family ?

2. Am I going to pay 3x$88 for my AOS fee or just one for the three of them? I know IV fee will be paid for each person..

Thanks again!

Congrats and welcome to the NVC stage!!

I am in the same situation as you. I am living abroad and my job will end when I move back to the US. You have to write your current annual income as $0. I will be doing the same and using a joint sponsor and showing assets. I suggest you do the same.

From the NVC website:

“Can a credible offer of employment for the visa applicant replace or supplement an insufficient Affidavit of Support?

No, the law does not recognize offers of employment in place of the I-864.

A job offer may show ability of the applicant to overcome ineligibility as a public charge, but does not meet any I-864 requirement.”

Your quote refers to visa applicants, not to the petitioner, so I would still think the petitioner uses that expected 2014 income as their 'current income' amount.

Hello all,

Great news -- the NVC is no longer requseting the Greek PCC that I got a checklist for. Apparently the supervisor was able to pull my file and list it as "unavailable."

Now here's where things get mysterious: very recently the Greece Country Reciprocity page showed that the PCC was available for non-Greek applicants applying from abroad. But when I looked again today, it doesn't say anything about non-Greek applicants. I even have the old version saved in an email, but I have no idea when it changed. I knew from the beginning that this process was going to be like bureaucratic Kafka hell, but this is just too weird. Disappearing requirements...

They did insist that I send court records for my husband, but that item will be very easy to take care of as he's never been in court. I'm planning on sending a letter today.

Can't wait to hear everyone's good news this week!

That's super fantastic!! Good luck with the remainder of your case :energy:

Thanks CanGirl.

Just need to ensure sending 11 of attachment files in one email won't cause any problem.

If everything doesn't fit in one email you can break it up into multiple emails. From the Department of State for Visa Processing website: "

  1. If you have many forms and documents to send us, you might need to send more than one email for that case. As a rule of thumb, try not to send more than five megabytes (MB) of attachments with each email." - http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents/submit/how-to-submit-documents-to-the-nvc.html#GroupB

This is getting frustrating and discouraging. It took over 2 months for the NVC to get my I-130 and process it. Paid my AOS in March, yes MARCH, and I paid my IV April 1st. NVC received both packets the first week of April. They finished processing them both the 16th of April.

However, there was a problem with the AOS. They needed my tax transcript for 2013, which hadn't been filed when I sent it in because it wasn't April 15th yet. IRS still doesn't have the transcripts ready so I had to send in my whole 1040. I believe they intentionally waited so they could request that. Got all the docs and sent them in immediately. They received the docs April 25th. Still nothing. Still processing. Now when I call my call is disconnected after 15 minutes for no reason.

I just called NVC and talked to Lexi, she was very nice and helpful.

They got our I-130 file on 5/23 but of course they have no case number yet and said call in 30 days. Realistically, how long as it been taking for case numbers once they get the file? From what I gathered from reviewing several time lines about a week ago, it seemed that about 2 weeks was realistic. Would you say that is about right? Maybe a mid-June case number for me is a possibility?

Also, I finally got the check mark thing cleared up for I-864 tax stuff. If you send all 3 years of transcripts, check BOTH boxes (13 and 14 in section 6). I heard conflicting things on this forum so I wanted to confirm.

Also, she said if my 2013 tax return transcript form the IRS website is not available in time for when I send the AoS, I can send the proper return transcripts for 2011 and 2012 and send the 2013 return copies (1040 W2 etc) in place of the transcript. She said that I should write whatever amounts appear on the actual documents I send even though the return transcripts are auto-rounded and the amount I wrote on the 1040 still has cents on it. She said we are all technically supposed to round to the nearest dollar when we file our 1040s but I never have and so she said just write it as it shows on the paper or they will send a checklist.

Sorry for the long post but hopefully that is useful to someone at some point

A realistic time frame to receive your case number is still around 30 days. Some people have gotten lucky but the majority of people have had to wait just about 30 days (sometimes 28-32 days). If your case was received at the NVC on 5/23, I would expect to receive a case number around June 23 or maybe a few days + or - . :)

EDIT: You can see that one or two posts up, someone received a case number after about 24 days, so there is a chance you may get it earlier than the 30 day estimate. I would recommend calling after about 3 weeks to see what's going on.

So NVC got my updated AOS April 25th and according to the lady I just talked to 2 minutes ago they have not even started processing it. I was told it could take 30 days for them to start processing it and another 30 days for them to process it. She has got to be kidding.

Interesting, as I've not noticed any conflicting statements about this. I thought it was consistently stated to check both boxes when sending in all 3 years of transcripts. Maybe that was something you found on other VJ threads but I pretty much always referred to this one as it has the excellent insights of Saylin (and of course others) to keep us on track :goofy:
