Yes, on the page where you enter all of the info to search for a flight using miles, just select one way instead of round trip at the top where it says "what type of trip do you want to take?".

I'm sure you could just show them your other one way ticket that you purchase with money. Let them know that you had to purchase it separately.

Done that many times into CR. I used to not know exactly when I was going to leave or how- or even from where when I went to Central America. I used to buy a FULL PRICE one way return ticket that I could cancel. they do want to see your return flight- I would show them that ticket and then promptly cancel it-- until I knew how I would be leaving-- point is you can use two one way tickets.

Yeah! I'm pretty sure that United just started allowing people to use their miles to purchase a one-way ticket about a year ago. It's nice because their miles are so expensive to purchase, unless you catch them during a sale.

Not sure how long Delta's allowed it, but never thought about it. Just gotta decide if it'll be worth it to spend all (or some of) my miles on a ~$500 flight.

how did you manage to talk to the supervisor?

yeah i see your timeline... unreal

I spoke to Kendall that night and she was confused ( she explained that she is new) so she said I should talk to a supervisor and she put Octavio on the phone. I didn't ask. But I am sure you could ask... the only thing they can say is NO....

I got a case number super fast and everything was submitted within the first 9 days but the Lawyer made a huge mistake and the freaking birth cert set me back.

Wow, I did that too. Who else got a checklist for that? Did anyone else put the rounded amount in?? :o

It depends what you used to get your income number from. For example IRS transcripts have rounded numbers whereas a 1040 doesn't. What important is what you sent in to NVC. If you sent in your IRS transcript then you are fine.

What they want is that your supporting document (ie IRS transcript) shows the same number as what you have filed in on your I-864 form.

A checklist was being generated for a Greek police certificate even though I had a letter in my IV husband's package explaining why it was unobtainable. When I called Shelley was very rude to me, talking over me in an authoritative way on a subject that I wasn't even asking about. Very insensitive, and she didn't try to help at all. I've gotten people who aren't willing to help me before, but never like this. By the end of the phone call I was crying and had to hang up.

So I called back and spoke to Lisa, who answered the same questions for me. After I asked about the checklist, I explained what happened with Shelley and she told me "you should never let anyone make you cry on the phone, you should have asked for a supervisor right then." So I asked if it would still be possible to speak with a supervisor, and she told me of course, that she would try to find one, but there's not always a supervisor around. (????) She found one, and when I got her on the phone she said "I'm very sorry that happened to you ma'am, that is certainly not the behavior we expect from our customer service representives." She wanted me to write a formal complaint via email. Then she initiated a supervisor review for the Greek police certificate thing -- I think she's going to personally review it as soon as she can pull my file. She made sure I was going to write the email complaint and apologized to me again. I probably talked to her for 20 minutes about my case.

I'm sorry if this sounds dramatic or over the top... I can't even explain how upset I was, and I'm not the type to have an emotional reaction over someone being rude.

Not dramatic at all. This is such an emotional process. I've been such a wreck myself. Speaking to someone mean certainly doesn't help. Glad your feeling better though. :)

On hold 30 minutes, talked with Sarah. My AOS was received at NVC on MAY 7th. Agent Sarah said my AOS documents are currently being reviewed.

Sooooo when should I call back to find out if I'm getting a dreaded checklist? I asked her twice about it and both times she said she can't see anything, she asked if I submitted the IV packet yet, and I told her NVC received that on May 16th (that's the day they scanned it in).

Were on the same boat. My aos package was scanned in the 9th and iv on the 21st let me know when your aos gets reviewed

So I called NVC yesterday and spoke with a representative.

NVC had received my AOS and IV packet on April 28 and I was just calling in to get an update.

The Representative stated that they had reviewed my AOS package on the 15th of may…then he said that they needed the Birth Certificate of the Beneficiary (IR-5 visa) …..I told him that on the travel.state.gov website and under the country civil documents link the US embassy at my country accepts personal individual extract in lieu of Birth Certificates and that’s what was sent….and I told him that I even included the link in which were it states this on the coversheet that I sent in…….then he puts me on hold for a couple of minutes and then comes back and says that my documents were still under review and that as long as I stated what I said in my coversheet that they will review it….

I don’t understand this, how can it show on his screen that they need the Birth Certificate of the beneficiary and then say it’s still under review and that they can still accept it…I haven’t received any checklists at all yet not even a false checklist…

I’m just a bit bothered that they might delay my case for another month for something that they already have….

So if a one-way ticket is 35,000 (and you have 55,000), just book the one-way with your miles and you will have 20,000 miles left over to use later. Then, use your $300 travel bank money towards the other one way ticket. You should only have to pay $151 out of pocket plus the taxes on the one-way ticket bought with the award miles.

Hi guys, finally IN here.

I have few questions in retards to AOS.

Do I just put N/A to all empty fields that does not apply to me?

I will have a joint sponsor. and He files his taxes jointly w/ his wife. Does he need to mention her in part 6? They work at same place(own a business).

If so, at PART 6 11, it says I need to include 1864A for this person.

I am confused :(

Welcome!! It's advised that his wife fills in an I864a yes, and he would mention here in part 6. If he doesn't use his wife and the I864a, he will need to provide tax information that clearly identifies what his income is/was out of the joint combined amount.

my husband is going back to the US, i will not see him until this process is done, until i go there.

my heart is broken, crying all day.

I know we can't replace your husband in any way, but hopefully our thoughts and wishes ease your pain even just a little :wub::wub:

Try not to stress out about the checklist too much (I know it's easier said than done ). Your docs are in and not much that can be done about it now. Plus NVC is so inconsistent in their checklists, that you never know what will happen. Maybe they will skip right over it. I figure I've done everything that I can and tried my best to do it properly. If mistakes are made and checklists received, then all I can do is move forward from there and continue doing my best.

yes, St. Lucia is beautiful! One of the blessings (as well as the fresh tropical fruits mango, pineapple, etc!) that I'm trying to appreciate during the (fingers crossed) few months that we have left here.

something I just read recently (although not speaking about this topic at all) helps me feel better about this whole process:

"Great and overpowering as these sacrifices may now appear, they will, when viewed in their proper perspective, be adjudged as inconsiderable, and pale into insignificance when balanced against the inestimable advantages" of being with our loved ones for a life time.

I replaced the last part out of the quotations to fit all of our situations and hope that it brings a little solace to you and all others going through this process.

Turns out their checklist was for leaving something blank and not matching incomes like I thought, WHEW. Sucks that anyone gets a checklist, though!

What is the best time of year to visit? I'd still love to visit some day! And thanks for the beautiful quote. That made me smile today. :)

Wow, I did that too. Who else got a checklist for that? Did anyone else put the rounded amount in?? :o

False alarm! It turned out not to be that after all. Whew!
