And so it progresses..we finally recieved our case number!

Now I regard myself as reasonably intelligent, but I confess that I find this whole confusing to say the least. I spoke with a really nice bloke (I can't remember his name) who told me that we now have a case number that was generated on May 15th.

He then told me I had to wait 15 - 30 days for the next step - I had a pretty bad connection, and found it a little difficult to understand exactly what he was saying.

Can somebody please let me know what will happen next?? If we have all of our ducks in a row what is a reasonable timeframe to get our case complete and an interview In Sydney?

Can hardly contain my excitement that we are getting close - and it was a nice early birthday present (it's my birthday tomorrow)

Congratulations! So did you get your case number and IIN?

The next step is you will go on the https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/ and do the ds261 choice of agent first.. It will probably take a few days until it becomes available as they are still putting your case into the system. Then your AOS will be invoiced, send the package, then your IV will be invoiced, and send the package.. wait for any checklists or case complete then interview..

That's a short run of it.. but go to the Wiki on the NVC process under Saylin's signature.. It's very helpful, and it's all in the right order of steps you need to take. Hopefully you have all your paperwork ready to fire off :),

And happy early birthday!!

Thank you!

I got my case number but no IIN. I think I will call back later today to get the IIN number.

Does this allow me to log into the system? The bloke I spoke to seemed to say that all correspondence needed to be done over the phone (which didn't make sense), but I have to admit. Was a bit too excited at getting a case number to remember everything I wanted to ask.

I have looked at other timelines and the remainder of the process (without any hiccups) appears to take about 6 weeks. Is this about right?

A good nights sleep and more vivid dreams of moving stateside will have my mind clearer in the morning (that's an Australian morning).

My plan is to call later this week to make sure my AOS is good to go (and to verify that my IV has been scanned in). Even my husband, Captain Patient has started asking me when do I plan to call NVC!!!

I think he's still on an adrenaline high from Arsenal winning the FA Cup on Saturday!

Adorable! ....both you and the car!!! Congrats Saylin!!!! Go for it...re: the plates!!!! I gotta a blue wig I can pass along....i can pm you the pic.

Thank you! Definitely considering Saylin as a license plate option.

And ohh, sure PM me a pic :)

I'm guessing I (L)NVC is out of the question?

Hahaha, yes :P I do have an I <3 NYC shirt from a school field trip there years ago. Does that count? ;)

Hmmm... Fascinating! And I hadn't realized ELIS is so new. On a side note, I do love the name, ELIS! It's an acronym, I know, but I can't help but think it was created on purpose to thoughtfully remind of Ellis Island :)

Yup, the $165 fee only started last February (2013). And that's an interesting thought! I wonder...

Congrats on your New Car. :D Checklist for changing your hair color.....I liked the natural blue..... :P

My car gets 26 MPG....so I will spend double what U do on gas....wow....

I just realized after all this time some of my posts may have been a bit..... :ot:

Thanks!

Not sure I would consider my blue hair "natural" But I definitely miss it! :(

Yeah, I drove to South Dakota yesterday for a high school graduation. About 150 miles there and another 150 miles back. Only went through about half my tank!

And you don't need to use the :ot: if you don't want to :P

:o OMG I love this car also, how wonderful tell us how it drives is it like most cars? I hear it's totally silent is that true? Congratulations so very happy for your girl. Both are beautiful you and the car :D

You know with that license plate people will be stopping you on the road with immigration questions!

It drives awesome! It is quite silent while driving. And when you're at a red light (or whenever else you're stopped), the gas engine turns off, so it's completely quiet! It's a little freaky actually

And hehe, but it'd be nice to meet some other VJ folk! I've only met 4 people so far through here (all of them at the Montreal consulate over the years  )

-------

And thanks to everyone else who congratulated me! :)

Also, :ot: but, I got my first, very own car yesterday and thought I'd share the great news with you awesome folks :) It's a brand new, 2014 Prius. Only had 1 mile on it! I've wanted this car for years and years and finally got one! Although, I definitely wasn't expecting to get one, lol. I've been having car issues with the hand-me-down I received 2 years ago and my husband merely suggested I test drive one (since I never had before). Few hours later, ended up driving this off the lot :jest: The 50 mpg is nice though :D

(Sorry for me squinting, but the sun was bright, and this was the less squinty photo of the bunch  )

Also thinking of getting a personalized license plate: Saylin! Not only do I use that name here but pretty much on all sites as my username :D

Wow! That's awesome!!!!! Congrats! I'm 40something and still have never had my very own car! Lol! Always had hand me down cars but it's nice not having a car payment. Maybe once the house is paid off. But I have had a good one for 6 yrs now. 2003 eclipse. Love my sunroof! Lol!! So NVC goddess wouldn't fit on the plate? Lol! :)

Saylin, I'm sorry but for some reason none of this really makes sense to me - even speaking to the operative at the NVC left more questions unanswered than it answered!

I'll just try and make sense of what we need to do by reading other peoples posts rather than asking as I know you have a very thorough wiki on the first page and it probably seems that I am lazy asking for advice...
