No bad, 15 mins on hold with NVC when I called right on 7am. Talked to Jean, very nice. she told us our checklist docs were received on the 9th and that it takes up to 30 days to review, sometimes less than that, and that they will email us when case is completed.

Jealous.com! I was on hold for 40 minutes lol

Mark told me my IV was just invoiced on Friday. But I won't be able to pay it for a couple days. I wish the DMV was this reluctant to take my money.

Guys quick question... would you recommend using a immigration lawyer during the NVC stage or is it pretty straight forward and easy. reason I am asking is during the I-130 stage, we used a lawyer and I felt it could have been easily handled by myself.. thanks for your thoughts!

Hi. My (long) two cents! The NVC process is complex, in the sense that there are several things going on. At this stage, you need to fill out a couple forms, gather a ton of documents... It can be intense. It is, however, totally doable by the petitioner/ beneficiary. But you HAVE to be willing to read a lot and get involved in doing the form filling/document gathering/ information finding. VJ is an incredible source of information and support. So, it's doable, but depends on you.

I personally loved this form filling/ doc gathering because it finally gave me some sense of usefulness and empowerment over this crazy process.

Our case is legally complicated (I have a two-year residency requirement that it's uncertain whether or not I have fulfilled already and I can potentially have overstayed in the US based on misguidance from our previous lawyer). But until I got to VJ, my current lawyer wouldn't give the kind of timeline that you find here (I arrived during USCIS-limbo, and couldn't understand why the delays until I got here). During the NVC portion, I pretty much did everything without them, so they just pushed the submit buttons and mailed the docs. They delayed submission of my DS260 by a month and a half, because they wanted to make sure we had the legal arguments for stating I fulfilled my 2-year and not overstayed (why hadn't it been done sooner? I don't know. My case has been "complicated" from day 1 of consulting with them, a year ago...). They pretty much became something else controlling my life, that I had no control over (I had made peace with NVC's delays, but could not for the life of me, accept the delay coming from us). I'm yet to see their legal expertise playing a bigger role, which will be at the interview.

I am personally at a point where, having found the resources here at VJ and knowing my personal characteristics when it comes to finding information online/ gathering docs/ putting docs together, I would not hire a lawyer and would do it on my own. Having had two so far, I have not seen great advantages.

And then when chasing for a interview date - I presume that's with your local embassy (so in my case it would be London)? Rather than calling NVC about the interview?

Actually the NVC schedules the interviews. So after your case complete email you will receive an interview email with the date and instructions on what to bring to the interview. Your embassy won't know anything until they received your documents from NVC. Good luck! Is your case complete? Keep us posted!

Just an update, our AOS packet was received on May 6th and Lee, gave us the 30 business days response for an update.

What did you guys experience? How long did you hear something about your AOS packet once it's received by NVC?

I called earlier this morning and was told that they still did not review my IV packet yet. Jeanna told me that they are still scheduling for June. I'm really hoping to get a Case Complete and a June interview!!!!!!!!!
