W-2 Doubt, please help.

Hello everyone,

we re finally ready to submit our Affidavit of Support packet, but (OF COURSE!!)I have a doubt.

We are not sending IRS tax transcripts but our copies of my husband's tax returns. We were told several times we would need to submit his W-2 and every other attachment to his form 1040A.

Now, I noticed that his W-2s are different. I'm going to try and explain what I mean. For each year (2010, 2011 and 2013) there are two different W-2s, one says "Copy to be filled with Employee's State, City or Local income tax return" and the other one says or it's supposed to say "Copy B to be filled with Employee's FEDERAL tax return" and it's from IRS...

Now which one is the right W-2? Because my mother in law said that the federal W-2 is sent in with the federal tax form at the time of filing, so I will not have a copy of it and the one I have is just a copy of a copy and I should disregard it.

Please help me, because I was about to send the packet tomorrow but I don't think I will.

It really does not matter which form you send as long as it shows the correct income that was filed along with the tax return

Do you think so? Because the instruction say to not send anything State or Local related and the W-2s we have are the one to be filled with state or local taxes.

What they really care about is the income tax you send and that the numbers match up. My parents were joint sponsors for my husband and they did not have that one copy so i just sent them one that I had left in their tax papers. If you really want to make sure though call NVC and ask them.

Doesn't matter. Those would have been the copies he would have sent to the state or federally had he completed a paper return. But because it didn't, it doesn't matter which one you send to the NVC.

I think it usually means federal tax. But, you have state tax return papers too right? Send them both? Doesn't it better anyway lol?

I would call NVC and get them to tell you exactly what is needed. It is pretty easy to download his tax transcripts from irs.gov website. As long as you have all the pertinent info.

It doesn't matter which copy of the W-2 is sent in. Hey are all the same. The copy B, state, etc. is merely for the convenience of the taxpayer who may have to file different tax returns. The authoritities don't care which one it is because each has the identical info.

Don't send in the state return but it doesn't matter what w2 is sent.
