I also met my fiance in the Dominican Republic via a dating web site. I forst started talking to her in March 2012, met her for the first time in April 2012 ... and have visited her 3 additional times over the last 24 months (2 years), but we chat and/or talk every single day via WhatsApp, Facebook, or Skype (and a few occasions direct phone). I submitted my petition in Feb 2014. I really did want to get to know her better and the fact that we have this going on for 2 years tells volumes on our relationship and how it may seem like less of a fraud since so much time has been invested.

Plus, I intentd to marry only once, and the divorce rate here in the US is on the high side to me ... so I'd like to take some time before I made a decision like this. It is a big, life-changing decision that will probably affect you for the rest f your life.

Well to tell you the truth I dont see it like that.. I dont see my self having a long distance relationship for 2 years.. thats too much.. and my question is not about my relationship working or not, my question if about the time I should wait if any. Nothing in life its guaranteed, you could of had that relationship u had with your girl and once you bring her here everything changes. Relationships are unpredictable, and you can never get to know someone at a distance. But thank you very much!

I only brought that part up because you were worried about fraud - and the DR does have a high fraud rate. I was voicing that maybe alonger sustained relationship may help ease your worries ... but I have read of people being able to get approved from much shorter time periods, so it's all good. Best of luck!

Timeline

I met my fiancé through an online dating site and after 2 moths of Skype and emails, I visited her and her family in August 2012. We are both conservative, so on that first trip I stayed in a hotel, but we spent a great deal of time together. When I left, I truly wanted to propose, but I wasn't sure if she was ready, so my better judgement said wait and expand the relationship. Well a year later, and another trip to visit her (this time staying with her) and her extended family, we decided to get engaged and start the K1 process (Sept. 2013). Unfortunately, she was never able to get a visitor visa to visit here, but I introduced her to my family via email and skype, so she at least has some familiarity with them. One more trip later (March 2014) this time to Moscow to join her for her interview we were approved, and now we are counting the days for her trip over for the wedding (planned for September this year).

Whatever you decide just make sure you feel comfortable (which you seem to be). Personally, I am glad we waited ourselves as I made us stronger in my opinion, and quite honestly, with skype, email, and texting, we kept in touch 24/7.

Good luck!

I met my fiancee in feb 2012, seen each other 4 times, I traveled 3 times to see her...finally said yes last november and filed late march this year (It was supposed to be in january but stuff happened lol)

Anyway I met her on the internet, some webchat , and for me it has been difficult, even more for her, online relationship, very long distance relationship, 4 times seen each other, costs of traveling, me HATING flying/planes (I actually had a mild discrete panic attack during one of those flights)...last november we realized we cannot be apart any longer so we decided to go ahead and do it. We actually have been in a relationship for 2 years so the timing for filing the k1 was perfect, according to the guidelines we found here (and followed them exactly). We were concerned that we didn't have enough photos, and with whatsapp and skype who needs to make a long distance phone call? that means we don't have phone bills...we did send like a 200 pages of whatsapp log...and we got our NOA2 in 14 days! yes yes California Service Center...

Your case, on one hand, maybe you do need more time, maybe not to be sure about the relationship itself, but more to have that 2 year "requirement" met. What could happen? delays, RFE, etc...on the other hand, file now and maybe who knows, everything goes perfect!!!

What I'm trying to say is, anything can happen either way.....I know how hard is to stay separated for a long time, but I would give it some more months, not wait the 2 years if you don't want to. And just hang in there if things get complicated during the initial process...because...it is a personal emotional test!

You can't travel..what about him? can he travel to visit you?

And, try skymax for phone calls, we pay like 400 pesos per month and we can call my sister in NYC no time limit, everyday!

Good Luck!

My girls love him, they talk trough Tango every day he helps with homework, projects etc... His family are very involved with my kids as well as we get together almost every weekend... So far it has prove to be a pretty balace, well directed, family oriented relationship.

That's great then. I always just like to make sure people are taking the time to really know the other person, as who you see during a trip and who you see when you live with them have their differences.

I have a question to all those that have met via social media or per say online!! How long did you guys waited before deciding filling for a K-1 Visa? I ask this question because I met my fiancé through Instagram, back in November 2014, from day one we have been in contact 24/7 since, I met all his family in NY. I traveled to the Dominican to meet in person in March 2014, I was there for a week and he proposed I dont have the funds, the schedule or time ( Im a single parent of two beautiful girls and just started a new job) to travel again before I summit my petition. My concerned is, if the fact, that we have known each other for such a short period of time may raise suspicions, since we have only know each other for 6 months. Im debating if I should wait a few more months or should I sent the petition. I love him and we cant wait to be together and I feel the longer I wait to send it, the longer will take for him to be here. Anyone in the same or similar situation??

Thank you all!!

I met my now husband on Okcupid in February 2012. I came to visit him here in the USA for 2 weeks in June 2012, during that time we got engaged and put together the package for the K1 visa. He submitted the K1 package a few days after I went home. We talked everyday via email and Skype. I was able to visit him again for 2 weeks in November 2012 and then for 2 weeks in February 2013. I got my visa in April 2013 and I moved to the USA and was married in July 2013.

If it feels right to you then go for it. Study the guides on here and any other relevant information to help you with the process. Continue to build your relationship. Good luck with the process and I hope you'll both be very happy.

I usually don't give relationship advice, but here's one suggestion.

Do not tell him you're going to see him. Make a SURPRISE VISIT! This should put all your doubts to rest. So if there is another "woman" or anything "shady" going on, you can see first hand. Also, judge his reaction, when he first sees you. Any man would be "crazy excited" that their international love has come to see them without prior notice.

K1 Visa Process -> 12/09-06/10 Married -> 09/10/10 AOS Process -> 09/10-12/10 Removal of Conditions-> 09/12-07/13

U.S. Naturalization -> 7/8/20

Since you said you will visit before the interview you can go ahead and file now.

FRONT LOAD your petition !

Front loading insures that the CO will already have seen all your evidence before the interview, some CO's make up their minds

not to issue the visa and return the petition without sufficient evidence and they will refuse to look at new evidence brought to the interview.

So do a VJ search on front loading for high fraud countries and get an idea how much to send in. Selecting 1-2 chats a month would not do.

Have a wide variety of all your communication and send in more than what is the usual for the "easy peasy" countries.

You say 2 years is too long for an online relationship. If you petition would end up in AP and returned you are looking at that or more

so resolve to be in it for the long haul just in case.

The USCIS phase is no big deal but the embassy phase is no picnic for high fraud countries. Be prepared.
Hope for the best and be prepared for the worst.

Thank you so much for ur reply, u all are a great help!!

I don't have any doubts of my relationship, I think u misunderstood my question... I'm asking WHEN should I file NOT if I should file... I trust him completely if I didn't bringing him over wouldn't even be an option. Very happy in my relationship.... My question was based on immigration concerns no personal concerns. But thank you! :)
