My personal opinion would be to wait. I say this because DR is an extremely high fraud country and the consulate is very aware of this. I also dont want to be a sour apple, but how well do you really know him? It's been 6 months. This process is long, hard, and VERY expensive. It also doesnt end once they get here. Trust your judgement but dont be blinded. If you do decide to file now I would make as many trips as possible while you are waiting, it is one of the things they will want to see if you have known him so for a short period of time. Wishing you all the very best.

Thank you! I am well aware of the cost and thats not the problem... we can also proof that our relationship is genuine; time will never determine how well u know a person to tell you the truth, speacilly at a distance... my only doubt was if I should travel again before I submmit my petition ( which I cant, cus of my new job and the fact that I was just there in March) but everything else u mentioned Im very well aware and preparing for it. I will travel a few more times before the interview, thank you again for your input!

Dominican Movil? Is that an IPhone app puts us all on.

I met Betty on POF while I was in Germany in Oct 2013. Almost immediately we started a relationship & decided to meet in person, since I couldn't while I was there. She came to visit me in February. It was our 1st meeting in person. I proposed to her while she was here on 2-11-2014. She left 2-17-2014. I finished the packet, which I started working on before she came & I sent it off to the Dallas Lockbox on 3-5-2014. As of the time I sent the packet, we hadn't even known each other for 5 total months, but when you know, you know.

Thank you again!

Also, you'd be surprised how during the processing time things in life can change. We thought we would not see each other until she came here on her Visa, but just 2 days ago I bought a plane ticket to go visit her in July. So that will obviously only help our case during the Consulate phase. That trip will occur right at 4 months from NOA1, so based on the processing times I've seen at TSC lately, I assume we will not have NOA2 before or during my trip, but that it will occur later. That's one of the main things that made me finally capitulate & decide to get the ticket. I was trying to bridge the gap of time that we won't see each other by placing a trip in what I believed to be the middle. As well as I'll be there for her Bday!

I met my husband on OkCupid, and we were married just six months later. Granted we don't live that far apart and see each other most weekends, but like others have said...you know when you know. And during the wait you just keep collecting evidence of your relationship, and you should be fine. Study and follow the guides here on VJ and read posts. There are very knowledgeable people on here who will help you. Good luck on your journey!

I only knew my wife for 2 months before we filed. Our interview 4 months later was effortless. It helps that I met her friends and family and that I had gone back to see her a few times and was present at the interview. We were worried about the time but it wasn't an issue.

I have a question to all those that have met via social media or per say online!! How long did you guys waited before deciding filling for a K-1 Visa? I ask this question because I met my fiancé through Instagram, back in November 2014, from day one we have been in contact 24/7 since, I met all his family in NY. I traveled to the Dominican to meet in person in March 2014, I was there for a week and he proposed… I don’t have the funds, the schedule or time ( I’m a single parent of two beautiful girls and just started a new job) to travel again before I summit my petition. My concerned is, if the fact, that we have known each other for such a short period of time may raise suspicions, since we have only know each other for 6 months. I’m debating if I should wait a few more months or should I sent the petition. I love him and we can’t wait to be together and I feel the longer I wait to send it, the longer will take for him to be here. Anyone in the same or similar situation??

Thank you all!!

You can file now. The only requirement is that you've met once in the last 2 years, at least for the processing center stage. Embassy stage you'll need more proof of relationship.

Having only recently met and having 2 kids, you may want to put some more time into the relationship before going with a life changing decision like this, but that's just a personal suggestion.

My girls love him, they talk trough Tango every day he helps with homework, projects etc... His family are very involved with my kids as well as we get together almost every weekend... So far it has prove to be a pretty balace, well directed, family oriented relationship.

I also met my fiance in the Dominican Republic via a dating web site. I first started talking to her in March 2012, met her for the first time in April 2012 ... and have visited her 3 additional times over the last 24 months (2 years), but we chat and/or talk every single day via WhatsApp, Facebook, or Skype (and a few occasions direct phone). I proposed in person in Aug 2013 and I submitted my petition in Feb 2014. I really did want to get to know her better and the fact that we have this going on for 2 years tells volumes on our relationship and how it may seem like less of a fraud since so much time has been invested. Even though she wanted me to act sooner, I had to hold my ground. The fact that she still stayed with me, that means something.

Plus, I intentd to marry only once, and the divorce rate here in the US is on the high side to me ... so I'd like to take some time before I made a decision like this. It is a big, life-changing decision that will probably affect you for the rest of your life.

Just my opinion

I only knew my wife for 2 months before we filed. Our interview 4 months later was effortless. It helps that I met her friends and family and that I had gone back to see her a few times and was present at the interview. We were worried about the time but it wasn't an issue.

Thats great to know, I'm always with his family here in the US, for Christmas, easter etc... I try to go down every other weekend... Thank you!
