Received packet rejection form (I-797)-but no reason written on form

I just received my entire packet back in the mail (for my wife). This packet included the I-485, I-130 and all supporting documentation. The rejection form-the I-797C-didnt have a reason for rejection written on it. It just had our check stapled to it. The check is written out for 1,490 dollars. The check has my name pre printed on it(its my account) and I wrote my wifes name on the check. The check amount is correct and everything. What is wrong with the check? The only thing they wrote on the check is they stamped "US Dept of Homeland Security Citizenship and Immigration Services on it".

I dont know what is wrong with the check. Any ideas?

What do you mean process? It is the check for the I-130 and I-485

Is it possible that you needed 2 seperate checks one for each form. Since they are processed seperatly. just a thought.

What do you mean you wrote your wife's name on it? Your wife's name doesn't need to be on the check--even though you are writing it for her AOS. It just needs to have a preprinted name of the account holder and bank, and the address needs to be listed. Check to see if you followed these guidelines for your check:

Personal checks must be pre-printed with the name of the bank and the account holder. Also, the account holder’s address and phone number must be pre-printed, typed or written in ink on the check. All checks must be typed or written in ink.

1. Write the date you are filling out the check including: day, month and year.
2. On the "Pay to the Order of" line write: "U.S. Department of Homeland Security."
3. Write in numbers the exact dollar amount of the fee for the service you are requesting. In the example, the amount is "$595.00."
4. Spell out the exact dollar amount of the fee for the service you are requesting. The "cents" portion of the amount should be written as a fraction over 100. In this example, the amount is "Five hundred ninety-five and 00/100."
5. Write a brief description of the purpose of your payment. In this example, it is "N-400 application fee."
6. Sign the check using your legal signature.

If you believe your check is still OK, then the other reason for rejection is perhaps you are missing some documentation, or your forms are improperly filled out or unsigned. What all did you include in your AOS packet?

My name and address are pre printed on the check(the address is our PO BOx which is different than our home address). I signed my name on the check and wrote on the left side of the check "For (insert my wifes name)"

I dont understand why they would just attach a check and write nothing on the form they sent as to what the problem was. Ridiculous.

What does the entire rejection notice say? You mentioned that it didn't provide a reason but maybe you misinterpreted it.

Did you only write in the memo section of the check? If you wrote anywhere else on it except for on the lines I think it would void the check.

You can not send a personal check. Resubmit using only a cashiers check. I also believe the amount you sent was incorrect. make sure you are sending only the $300.00 or $400.00 something. Check on the amount

I sent two personal checks just 2 weeks ago or so and it was fine. And I never heard of being required to send cashiers checks, so I don't think thats why it got rejected. I also heard of many people just sending one check with the full amount and it was fine either. If he also spelled DHS out and didn't abriviate, there is not much left. Maybe he really wrote (accidentally) onto check and not on the line where it should be and thats why they rejected it. But who knows.

I think that might be a problem as well. When my wife was sending K-1 petition for me and when we sent AOS petition, we were told that field "for" should contain petition type, like for example "I-485 processing fee", but not my name or something like this.

Personal checks were just fine, nobody sent our checks back.

what? no personal checks? so what is all about I've been reading that checks must have name/names , adress printed? Please please clarify what is the righ way to pay the fees: personal checks? cashier checks? my husband and I have a joint account with our names on checks and were planning to use them to pay the fees.
