What in the world is up with all the off the shoulder/spaghetti strap/strapless dresses? Kudos to you ladies that can wear them..but I'm top heavy. SO and I are thinking an informal outdoor wedding in my backyard. I've been looking for a suitable dress for a month and nothing is making me happy. It either looks like it's for a granny(an old fashioned, blue haired, cane clutching granny) or doesn't have material on top to hide a decent bra strap. Admittedly I also want a long skirt as I have a rather massive scar down the front of one leg..but still. BLARGH!

Ok, rant done for now.

I was going to do the beach wedding thing but now we are marrying in winter thanks to USCIS. Hair half up and half down with a few frangipani flowers is nice for a beach wedding that was what i was thinking...revising that for snow weatherand marriage in a court house!

I bought a simple halterneck wedding dress in white dull satin (the satin being fairly stiff holds me in, in all the right places) and was going to wear silver sandles once i got off the beach.

Like a few people said, Davids had some nice dresses and reasonable prices.

For those who got married in a court house...did you wear a wedding dress for that?

Good luck Jellyshot! :D

I know you probably haven't thought about this but I found my dress at the Salvation Army Thrift Store, it's perfect, exactly what I wanted, it's a Vera Wang and it was under $50 dollars. You can usually find just about any style/size at any second hand shop. So it's not new but it was only worn once and if you don't tell anybody they won't know, lol. ;)

I humbly suggest Alfred Angelo's dresses, either in the regular or plus size collections. As a plus size girl with boobs , i was scared to go looking for a dress, because I was convinced I would end up with something that would make me look like a tent. I ended up looking fabulous, if I do say so myself! It was worth the money. I find there's a lot of variety, and maybe you'llfindsomething in the bridesmaid's dress section that might be moreinformal for you :)

Thank you for the suggestions ladies. When I say informal I mean I'm most likely goign to be wearing a regular dress...something I'll definitely be able to wear again. Part of the frustration is that I'm not quite plus size..right at the end of the 'normal' wear spectrum. I suspect I'm going to end up buying something a tad too big and getting it altered, that way I'll have enough room in the bust and it'll fit the rest of me as well.

I so much agree Cassie...as I said my dress is Alfred, and I am a bit top heavy. I was scared to death of variety. But honestly everything looked so much better then I imagined! I am actually excited about my dress!

Having your dress altered is really smart anyway. Especially if you have a good seamstress. Mine is awesome!

It makes my dress really comfortable.

My problem with wedding dresses is that I hate them all.

Okay, not quite.

I detest all pick-up skirts. I don't know what type of gown flatters my body type except that empire waists look like #######, as I don't often run around in ballgowns. I look like ####### in white.
