greek police certificate

Good day,

We just got an RFE considering a greek police certificate.

We are in the process of DCF in Germany.

I got the German and Dutch Reports and I also needed a greek one.

Through the Greek consulate I got what I was told to get, stamped by the consulate, I sent it together with a copy of it to Frankfurt, but they want the original, this was only a copy of a fax sent to the Greek consulate in Dusseldorf. Unfortunately they were not too friendly there, and previous experiences with Greek authorities make my stomach turn. I can not believe I would be the first one that needs one from Greece.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Unfortunately there is no way of avoiding going back to the Greek consulate. You will have to speak to them and request the original, and explain that a fax is not acceptable for a US spousal visa.

Even if you went to Greece, you still can't get access to the police check that NVC requires. Only way is through the consulate. I would go back to them asap, and ask for the original. And because you are dealing with a Greek government entity, it could take a while for you to get the original in your hands.

Thank you,

that is what I'm worried about, luckily we are not in a real rush but it would be nice to have things arranged.

Sandra

Wish you best of luck. And if worse comes to worse at the consulate, do what Greeks do when dealing with greek government services.. start yelling!! lol!

just an update,

It has been 4 weeks that I went back to the Greek consulate, after applying again for the needed certificate, with the explanation that a stamped fax is not enough they did accept the application, typical reaction, 'never heard of that you are the first one needing this'. Few days after I called the ministry of justice in Athens and she sent out another fax and the original by registered mail.

Yesterday I called the consulate and the lady told me that nothing had been received yet, another call to Athens this morning, the lady even remembered my name and could not believe that they did not receive anything yet.

Patience is a virtue..................................

Actually, I have thought about that, if nothing comes till friday I will call the ministry in Athens, the lady has been very helpful there but she is not allowed to send it to my home address, and go there myself to pick it up.

It is a shame though, certain countries are advanced in certain things and so unorganized in others. And although you show them in writing what you want or need they keep denying that it is like that.

Hi,

According to http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country.html you will have to go to the nearest consulate or embassy, that is what I did in Dusseldorf, of course I do not know if anything changed. When you go to this link it also has the phone numbers for Athens in there, they were very helpful .

Check with them and after that go back to the greek embassy/consulate ( I also went there a few times unfortunately). Make sure that they send you the original and not the fax copy.

Of course there are a lot of nice people working there, as an example the people in Athens who were very helpful, but a lot of times it is hard to get something done which is not part of their daily routine.

Make sure to make a copy from the above link when you go back to the greek consulate again.

good luck

Sandra

Hi,

I think they do speak English, but you best start by calling the greek consulate that is closests by you and ask them what to do to get an "prototypo antigrafo poiniko mitro", or go by there if they are not to far away, take the print out from travelstate with you where it states what the procedures are. To say that you should just go to Greece, as they did, is a bit far off isn't it, unfortunately I have been there and I would expect them to say something like that aswell.

Last time she told me they only give copies and no originals, so when I asked her if she could give me that statement in writing, it suddenly wasn't a problem....

Be persistant! and if the refuse to help you call Athens.

Ofcourse it could be that procedures have changed recently, if so get that in writing and forward it to the US- Side, see what they know about it.

Let us know what happened, my be helpful for others

The OP hasn't logged on to VJ since December 2015, so a reply seems unlikely. See your original thread (main K-1 forum) for an answer from a retired CO.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
