Police at Montclair State University have charged a student with filing a false report after an investigation determined that his claim that he was assaulted outside a residence hall was untrue, the school said Monday.

Navjoat Aulakh, 18, of Carteret allegedly said three white men assaulted him and called him an “Islamic terrorist” outside Whitman Hall Thursday night. An alert was issued to students and staff.

But in an email on Friday, Police Chief Paul Cell said an investigation determined Aulakh’s story was “fabricated.”

“Sadly this individual chose to put our community in fear and this type of action will not be tolerated,” Cell said in the email. Aulakh also will be charged with creating a false public alarm, the university said.

When I was in college, the only time you heard about stuff like this was when some woman decided she was raped only for us all to hear months later that it was a bunch of bullshiit.

I know of someone who was taken in for that same accusation by an x-girlfriend.

Luckily he was actually with his roommates family a great distance away with an air tight alibi.

It's a scary thing I would imagine to be accused of such a crime.

I think they should nail these cases when they are proven to be false.
