Hello again,

First of all thank you to all who had replied answering to my questions, it has been such a great help ! We should be ready to send our package in a week or tow after renew my Mexican passport this Friday ( appointment booked at the Mexican Consulate since Feb!) and when I get in the mail the letter from the WIC program with the information I requested ( on receving public assitance )

I have one set of all forms filled up as a draft, so when is time to send the package, what is the proper way to fill them up? if they need to be typed, how did you do it? I know it soulds like a very silly question but I had to ask because I am unsure how to do it .

Thank you

Normally you can fill out the USCIS forms online. Besides being free, they are all in .pdf format and you can type the information directly onto the form. Also, typing ensures the information is unmistakably clear.

Good luck!

The easiest way for us was to fill them out online and then print them. All that the instructions (i.e., Form I-485) state is to type or print legibly in black ink (emphasis added). My handwriting is such a scribble that doing it online and printing them was the logical choice.

:time: It helps everyone that uses the forum.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Thank you Gegel and A&B for your quick response. Also as far as the timeline, don't I have to wait to start my process to do it? I have not started yet so I don't know what I suppose to put in it. Thanks

I am in the minority, I think, but I would recommend handwriting neatly. The reason being that you can't make typos when you hand write it.

I have seen a lot of people with threads about "Ack! I put the wrong birthday! I made a typo in the name, I wrote the date wrong!" and other silly mistakes like that.

But, either way is acceptable. It's your choice.

Is it okay if its a mix of typing and handwritten? We printed the form but had left blank in areas we thought we didn't need to fill out, but then realized you aren't supposed to leave anything blank when going over instructions. So now in places that were blank it is written in blank ink (like signature, same pen) N/A or None, and the rest is typed.

Is that going to cause a problem?

Actually, the Form I-129F (assuming you are working on this form) instructions, and the Form I-485 (AOS form associated with this forum) instructions, both state that, "If an item is not applicable or the answer is "none," leave the space blank." (emphasis added)

Refer to page 2 of the I-129F instructions: http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-129finstr.pdf

Refer to page 3 of the Form I-485 instructions: http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-485instr.pdf

Though I think that in their latest forms updating project, USCIS was not totally consistent with the same instructions regarding "N/A" and "none" in their myriad of forms.

However, for the purposes of this discussion, you should likely follow the official form instructions. It may behoove you to go over the form instructions again to make sure you didn't accidentally miss something else. I know that I had to read them several times before I felt confident enough to fill them out by myself.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Thanks for your response. It was actually in reference to the G-325A Biographical Form, sorry I should have referenced this. I may be in the wrong forum as I did a general search on using "N/A or None or leave blank." The G-325A doesn't really have instructions notifying to leave blank like the 1-29F did. I actually just called USCIS and their response was we can't tell you how to fill out the form beyond general guidelines, but follow instructions to the best of your ability, and best to not leave any blank spaces unless specifically noted in instructions. So, for 129F - easy peasy, will leave blank what doesn't apply per instructions and will write none where it specifies to do so.

G-325A we are going to go ahead and use the form where we wrote N/A in the spaces (my fiance just sent them in the mail anyway) that don't apply (the person on the phone said unless instructions inform otherwise, it is best to not leave any blank spaces). I can't believe I am fixating so much on the forms, seemingly little things that don't matter and I sound like a babbling idiot, I guess it is just a big fear to cause any delay or reason to get denied. Still hoping that the mix of typed and handwritten portions doesn't cause any issue. Ugh.

Thanks for your response and advice!

Picking up on the same issue really -- I'm preparing to send off my AOS package (almost there now!) and have all my various forms printed off. My SSN card arrived today however, meaning I now have blank spaces on these forms where it asks for a SSN. As all the information on these forms was filled in using PDFs and then printed off, am I going to be ok to add the SSN in fresh black ink?

I'm assuming that as you have to sign the forms anyway, the fact that they will include both printed and written information shouldn't be a problem, right?
