California written test for permit has 36 questions and you need to get at least 30 out of 36 questions right. They allow you to retake the test 3 times if you fail. You will get your permit on the same day if you pass. They still use paper and I would advice you to get the handbook at your local DMV and read before your test.

I did my behind-the-wheel test 2 months after I got my permit, basically because I want to practice more. It's pretty easy, tbh. I don't know if there is any restrictions on when you can get your behind-the-wheel test after you have passed your written test.

Good luck!

When you get your California permit after just the written test do you have to have someone else with license in car wth you at all times even if you have a valid foreign license? or does it act as a temporary full license?
