I am sorry what you guys are going through. None of the statements he made about interviews are true. He doesn't know what he is talking about. Maybe he thought you are going through the AOS process, and yes all AOS petitions go through an interview. ROCs not. In fact, only a very very small portion of the ROCs (like 2%) go through field office interviews, rest is just handled at the service center.

The only important thing that came out his mouth was the background check process. There is even a thread on pending petitions due to background checks on this forum written by people like you. For instance http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/578081-i751-delays-because-of-security-checks/ . Nobody knows how long these background check takes. But in your case almost 2 years, give me a break! I bet it is just sitting on some officer's desk and forgotten about it.

I think you should contact your congressman/woman and ask assistance. Tell about the pending background check status. You could also ask case assistance from the USCIS ombudsman. Finally, if you haven't filed for naturalization, do so. You don't need to wait for ROC adjudication to file for citizenship. Numerous times people wrote on this forum filing for naturalization helps with pending ROC cases. It is not fair this has been taking so long.

Seriously, at this point, citizenship is just turning my stomach. I did request for an Ombudsman, and again today called them to see why I can't file for an Infopass (I really really don't want to end up out of status on this) but they can't find any reason why I can't make an appointment, said to try another computer with a different IP (which I did, and it didn't help) and to just keep trying again later.

Next step then is to talk to our Congressman...

Us Canadians are known to have issues in our backgrounds that require extra investigation, eh??

We DID get our answer real quick, like really quick! They must have sent out mail immediately, because we now have an interview date for March 23rd!

Doesn't stop me from still having to go down there on the 9th for another extension stamp in my passport, but I'm so relieved to finally have an interview!

At least you got some kind of feed back on your case. Why didn't you file for citizenship all this time, it might have pushed them to act quicker.

I totally understand the feeling. Sometimes I feel like taking my family to my home country and never coming back, the whole immigration process just too unreasonably stressful.
