processing times for aos

we just filed for aos last week. how long exactly do we need to wait for the interview? and can we schedule it? or uscis will set that one up?

I have heard it can take up to a year, but I would expect about 6 - 8 months wait for the interview, if needed. Some have been getting by without an interview, it varies. Also, the USCIS will setup the interview date for you.

You want to know EXACTLY, you are having a laugh. Some folk seem to get one after a few months, others don't have one at all.

1) You get an interview: the NBC forwards your case to your local office. Processing times vary from local office to local office. Most cases seem to get their interviews within 3-5 months of filing. They will send you an invitation letter telling you what date and time the interview will be at.

2) You get picked as a Potential Interview Waiver case: your case stays at the NBC. There is no telling how long it'll take to get approved. Their processing does not seem to follow any particular order. Some wait 4 months, some wait 12+ months. Very few even get an interview after all the wait (this is very rare though).

Bottom line is, there is no telling really how long it'll take.
