Just incredible. Received notice from USCIS on 3/21/14 that our case was shipped from USCIS to NVC. On 4/24/14 I received an email NVC stating,

"Dear Sir/Madam: We recently received your visa petition. We will send NVC processing instructions within 30 days."

Is this crazy or not? Why wouldn't they just sent the case number. I immediately sent an email asking for the case number to no avail.

Is this what everyone else is experiencing?

This is frustrating as they've clearly had the case for some time and have not even provided a case number.

It can take 4-8 weeks for USCIS to actually ship out your case to NVC. They don't ship it the minute it is approved, they have set days to send out a whole bunch of approved cases at once.

NVC assigns a case number within 30 days of receiving your file. This is their way of controlling the work flow. If you receive a case number before 30 days consider yourself lucky.

I had the same situation with you. I called NVC to ask for my case # and the lady on the line reply it will take them 30 days to assign it. Finally, it took me another 16 days to receive my NVC case # in another email with a letter attached stating that I should not sell my property...blah blah blah.

Good luck!

It's not the mailing time from USCIS to NVC that bothers me as much as it taking up to, or more that 30 days just to get a case number from NVC. Sounds like it's just a wasted period of time that gives NVC and their contractors breathing time. Come on. How difficult can it really be in today's digital age? Seriously. Why even mail nowadays (no offense to the ailing USPS) when we have bits and bytes? There are some awesome high tech digital scanners out there today that can easily scan 20 or 30 pages or more in one minute. Why add insult to injury by tacking on ANOTHER 30 days or so just to provide a case number? Like I said, just breathing room for NVC. Am I asking too much? Don't our tax dollars go towards technology? Come on folks. This is ridiculous.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that has experienced this, but I was surprised to see this as I have not seen anyone else report on receiving such an email.

Do you think the emailer is conducting business on the side? You should post the letter to bring some sunlight onto this. From all appearances it seems as though contractors are sending out the initial emails to us.

Look at the NVC filers thread and you will see how many people had to deal with this. I know it sucks but we have to play by their rules unfortunately. I waited a full 30 days for my case number to be assigned and I actually never got an email like yours. I had to call NVC and ask about my case every week.

This is exactly why I posted - I never saw anyone mention getting an initial email like I did stating it would be 30 days to get a case number.

I'm sure I'll also have to call.

Yeah, I got no such e-mail. I called again this afternoon to see if they had received my case yet, and just today they had, but of course no case number yet. The guy told me that if I didn't hear any instructions from them, I needed to wait until exactly six weeks from today before calling. Six weeks! Like I would sit around twiddling my thumbs till then!

I said, "Wait, so you're going to e-mail me my case number and other relevant information? It was my understanding that I was going to have to keep calling periodically to get that information." And he said, "If we have that information, we'll e-mail you; if not, we'll get it to you another way." Um, what?

Whatever. I'm just going to keep calling every few days. Saylin's wiki is basically my Bible at this point.

Honestly, if NVC is anything like USCIS, they just throw random time frames at you based on not much of anything. I think six weeks would be the very maximum, something-definitely-got-lost-in-the-shuffle-so-call-us-because-we-screwed-up time frame (I hope). But the average for recent cases seems to be about a month from what I saw on the forum last night, so who knows.

That's why I'm saying this is just buying their contractors more time to shuffle cases. It really upsets me that in 2014 they don't have a better process. Of course if they were a profit making organization they'd have already had the cases digitized and case number assigned. Is there anyone here that has worked for NVC that would have more insight into this process?

I'm also perturbed that USCIS could not take on the financial affidavits and other tasks that the NVC has no need to deal in. The case should be shipped digitally from USCIS to NVC or ship NVC and straight onto the correct embassy, especially if the interviews are truly perfunctory. Let's cut some of this fat out, streamline the process, reduce times. But, I know. This is easier said than done and many jobs would be on the line.

Oh, I guess I received the email since I sent an email to the NVC with the required information. Got to be proactive.

Ok then. Just received my NVC Case and Invoice Number. Was also able to complete the Form DS-261, Online Choice of Address and Agent Form and pay the Affidavit of Support (AOS) processing fee ($88.00 USD). Quickly received my receipt and their Document Cover Sheet. Awaiting for the system to receive my payment so I can start the Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration.

At this point I'm very impressed by the efficiency of the Consular Electronic Applications Center system. Will keep all posted.

Good luck to all of you out there.

Things are happening much quicker now. Just on Friday the AOS invoice reflected paid and I was able to send out the AOS package yesterday.

I've been looking at completing the IV but see that the status is "Not Available" in the fee section. I guess I am unable to access the online DS260 unlit the fee is paid? Can anyone else tell me their experience of when it becomes available to pay?

Good journeys to all.
