I understand, and I had mentioned in an earlier post that I'm going to wait as appropriate.

Hell, I may be there for the two weeks, and we can't stand each other ;)

If we do hit it off, I plan on going back again after ramadan. I can't afford to stay any longer than two weeks at a time.

I don't know what to say about his parents. He'll be forty in a couple of months and really isn't too concerned about his parents opinion.

I really just want a handle on the process..

I'm using due caution.

I hear ya. Were there any particular areas of the process you want information about? One piece of advice I have - with the caveat that there are different opinions on this topic and I'm sure others will offer theirs - is to go with quality over quantity when submitting evidence. I've seen so many people submit boxes and pounds and huge stacks of evidence, but IMHO the consulate doesn't need 300 pictures from one visit, and I've seen chat logs get some couples into trouble.

His parents may come around once they meet you....

How far back are they looking for these chat records etx. Expected to go back? If people have been talking for a long time, but just recently decided to consider applying for a K1, what time frame do they look at.

Also the man I'm seeing doesn't want kids, so me.not being able to have them is moot.

I just want to set us up for success if this indeed what we decide to do.

Thanks!

We didn't submit any chat records. Those who do usually include a sampling throughout the relationship, the idea being to show a natural evolution, chemistry, more substance than just meaningless canned compliments, etc. Another alternative is to submit logs that don't show the actual conversations but just the dates and times or lengths of the chats, like phone records.

I think what they are looking at is how your relationship evolved from beginning til present, and whether it looks like the Moroccan was already saying he loved you within the first week, and pressuring you to move forward very quickly and saying he wanted to marry you, blah blah blah within the first months. Since Americans generally (maybe not always) tend to date quite a long time before committing to marriage, the consulate is looking at the American norms as well. I think it is good that you met on an Atheist site, which shows your common beliefs, and it doesn't seem like the normal dating site that many Moroccans go on to find a woman. They want to see that your relationship evolved normally and shows how you two fit together.

I submitted from the beginning up to the time we applied, but I didn't go overboard (just some samples from various months over the course of the 2 1/2 years. I wrote a letter explaining our relationship, our connection with each other and shared interests. I also explained that we mostly talked on the phone, because of our circumstances. I organized my file well with a table of contents, so they could quickly and easily find what they were looking for.

In our case, I don't think they even asked about whether he wanted kids or not, which is actually kind of strange. They did mention to him on the phone when he had requested a later interview date (because he was in the beginning of his school term working and was bad timing) something about that they imagined he couldn't wait to be with me and our kids. My kids were still in grade school at the time. Later, at the interview, they asked him something about my kids, and he became very talkative about them and any question they asked him, he would expound more on it, so I think this worked out well for him, especially considering he is a very shy person.

I totally agree with you! I get suspicious every time I hear of people planning to marry before they even know how bad their partner's farts stink.

hahaha...I agree with the stinky fart test. If both can tolerate those farts, then it's the perfect match lol :D

Hey, just wanted to add my two cents. I'm awaiting a K-1 interview at the Cairo embassy for my fiance right now, so my advice isn't necessarily applicable, but take from it what you will!

First off, congratulations and I wish you two the best. My courtship with my fiance was pretty unconventional by American standards, but I found a real gem and I am so grateful for all the crazy circumstances that finally brought us together. I hope it turns out the same for you two!

Second, this might sound really crazy, but if I could go back and start the process over again, I'd see if my fiance could move to another country because Egypt is just so slow. If we get denied after his interview, I think that's what we will have to do before we re-file/get married and file that way. If the Moroccan embassy is really that difficult and you really decide you want to be together, I'd at least consider it. I know it's extreme, but he's about to have total upheaval in his life anyway so "extreme" is soon going to be par for the course.

Third, read as much as you can and become a real detective about this process. Ask questions, read stuff, etc. Don't get scared away because of all the horror stories and negative feedback, but take everything and learn from it. Sounds like you are doing that already. Best of luck to you!

Move where? What countries are going to be faster/easier that guys in MENA can easily pick up and pack for? With equal employment opportunities/pay during the waiting period?

Yeah, we were crazy because we could have gone through Italy (where Y had residence at the time) but did Morocco instead because no matter how crazy the system was, we felt more comfortable with him navigating the Moroccan part and my navigating the American part. It seemed easier for him to get all the things he needed in Morocco than deal with Italian requirements. It was just over 6 months from petition to visa-in-hand for him, so it ended up being a fine decision!

I assume that those who asked did so rhetorically given the snarky tone from others. Simple answer: my fiance had a job offer in England and has a friend in Qatar that might have been able to help us. If his K1 is denied and we have to file post-marriage, I doubt we'll do so from the Cairo embassy. They are a nightmare to work with, an absolute information black hole, and super backed up because of the political problems. I miss my sweetheart and I'd do anything to get him here with me ASAP.

There's nothing snarky about it. Facts are facts. Egyptians aren't free to up sticks and travel where they'd like to go for work or pleasure and your guy is no different.

Oh, and if that K1 is denied, he'll still be going through the Cairo embassy because he lives in Egypt.
