Lost Greencard after RoC filed

Hi folks,

After we filed our RoC petition, my wife either lost or had her greencard stolen. A copy of her 2-year conditional greencard was sent as part of RoC filing (I-751). Is the greencard needed at any point during the biometrics/interview process, or can we wait for her 10-year greencard?

We already sent a check for $590, do we need to pay another $450 (which seems extremely expensive) to get a replacement card?

At the biometrics, they are really looking for government issued picture ID - I used my Driver's License

She will need valid ID to have her biometrics taken. Provided she has something else she can use for that (driver's licence, state-issued ID card, passport, etc.) then she won't need the green card for biometrics.

I would suggest making an Infopass appointment, taking the I-751 extension letter / NOA and asking them to give her an I-551 stamp in her passport. This stamp will act as a temporary green card (mostly for work and travel purposes) for however long they give you for it (usually between 6 and 12 months). Right now, for example, she wouldn't be able to travel internationally with only the extension letter, because it also requires the expired green card to go with it. The I-551 stamp would fix this, and be free.

Hypnos- great advice- many thanks. I'll look into scheduling an infopass appointment for her.

When making the appointment, do I have to tell them that the greencard is lost? Or do I just ask for the I-551 stamp?

Well they're probably going to want to know why you can't use the expired green card with the NOA as most other people do, so informing them that the green card has been lost would be the easiest way to do that.

We had to make that inforpass appointment as well, but for other reasons, wife's one year extension was about to expire. But so was her foreign passport. So we made a trip down to Chicago to get that renewed. Then the next day, a trip to St. Paul.

But learned later on, could have avoided that trip if we brought two passport type photos, and applied for an I-94. But then that trip to Chicago wasn't wasted after all. Learned that through an agreement our DOS has with her home country, she still needs her home country's passport to visit. Even with her new US passport.

After she had her citizenship interview, finally sent her ten year card, only to give it back for her oath ceremony.

The Infopass online site isn't playing nice, it just says "there are no appointments available in your area, check back later." Should I just call the # that pops up, or is there a better number to call?
