MY WIFE AND I GO FOR THE INTERVIEW FOR THE GREENCARD ON THE 16TH OF MAY. WE ARE PLANNING TO MOVE, BUT WANT TO WAIT TILL WE HAVE THE GREENCARD, SO WE DO NOT HAVE TO PUT A CHANGE OF ADDRESS IN BEFORE THE GREENCARD COMES SO IT DOES NOT GET MISPLACED IN OUR GREAT U.S.A. GOVERNMENT RED TAPE .

ANYONE TELL ME, PLEASE, THE AVERAGE LENGTH OF TIME TO GET THE GREENCARD AFTER THE INTERVIEW, OF COURSE, IF IT IS APPROVED, WHICH I KNOW IT WILL. THEN IMMEDIATELY AFTER RECEIVING THE GREEN CARD WE WILL MOVE AND THEN PUT IN A CHANGE OF ADDRESS WITH THE USCIS.

THANK YOU KINDLY

First, if you could please hit the key that is directly to the left of your 'a' key and shut off capslock, that would be really great.

Second, please fill out your timeline so people know where your interview is taking place--this makes a big difference in average processing times.

Met in 2010 on a forum for a mutual interest. Became friends.
2011: Realized we needed to evaluate our status as friends when we realized we were talking about raising children together.

2011/2012: Decided we were a couple sometime in, but no possibility of being together due to being same sex couple.

June 26, 2013: DOMA overturned. American married couples ALL have the same federal rights at last! We can be a family!

June-September, 2013: Discussion about being together begins.

November 13, 2013: Meet in person to see if this could work. It's perfect. We plan to elope to Boston, MA.

If you are approved at the interview, then it takes about a week or 2 to receive the green card in the mail. However, not all approvals happen instantly at the interview. Sometimes they need to review your case and the approval comes later.

It's easy to change the address. I'd just move and not wait for the greencard. Get the new address and go to the interview. Tell the officer that you're moving, when your moving, and your new address.

Make the immigration officers work for you. You paid good money for this process, so extract as much out of the service that you can. Don't let them push you around.
