Uhm.... how long does it take to file for your income tax returns by the way...sorry, not familiar with US taxes. I'm getting worried cuz my fiance's workplace wouldn't start making W2s until January 22 and our petition was approved last December. Will we have enough time?

If all the other information is ready when the W-2 is issued you can go immediately to a preparer such as H&R Block and prepare and file the return the same day. The key is to have all pertinent info ready to go.

Um....he hasn't filed in 4 years??? If I'm not mistaken, once the IRS learns of this he might be in trouble...unless he had no income to declare for the last four years.

As for your question...how long it takes depends on what's involved with his filing, and IF it's discovered during the filing that he hasn't filed in 4 years. That's my take on it.

As for your question...how long it takes depends on what's involved with his filing, and IF it's discovered during the filing that he hasn't filed in 4 years. That's my take on it.

Two different issues... You can file the current year and worry about the previous years at a later date if returns should have been filed. It will take the IRS some time to discover and respond, however they will discover and respond particularly if there are W-2's and/or 1099's involved for the previous years.

Yah, he was being lazy when he was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan..... God I hope it won't take months to file for all.......

I have missed previous years before. I wasn't quite that lax tho! (lol). I recieved a refund both years and my refund was LARGER because they paid me interest on that money. So he may have a good refund this year!

On the other hand....if he owed money, could be expensive on him. But he should file for all years missed before the IRS catches him. Then he will have fines and possibly jail time. Good luck!

I have similar problem... So I"m having Veronica hold off sending back Packet 3 until Jan 26th ..this should give me time to receive my W2's by the 5th of Feb... get them done and overnight a copy of the W4 to her by the 6th..She should have it by the 9-12th area... Her intervew will most likely be around the 19th.. It's all about timing..

Don't our employers have to give us our W2s by January 31st? If so, then at least your fiance will have those but I'm not sure about enough time to file taxes. Ouch.

From the Romanian Consulate:

he financial documents from you showing you have the ability to support her in the U.S. (an affidavit of support, Form I-134, an employment letter or recent paycheck, a recent bank statement, and a copy of your Federal Income Tax Return for the most recent tax year, 2005),

Do you mean the 1040? Because the W-4 is the form you fill out to claim withholding status for your paychecks....

We have those quickie places.. that can do it on the spot.. in minutes.. like H&R Block..

If the IRS owes him money, it won't be a problem at all. Even if he owes, he'll just have to pay interest on the amount owed. Either way, there won't be a problem...it wasn't identified by the IRS. That's when there is a problem.

Returns are self-prepared, so once he fills out the forms and mails them to the IRS then they are deemed "filed". He will simply provide you a copy of what he sends to the IRS, so there is no waiting for him to get his return back from the IRS.
