I've always wanted to try my hand at IT. I hear it's not even like a real job. Where can I send my resume?

Really depends what you do. If you're on the operation side of things you'll be working a lot of hours, after hours, weekends, holidays, evenings with on-call work.

If you're a low end IT worker, ie: help desk job. You're on a static shift 9-5 or something along those lines.

It kind of varies from position to position. I worked for a healthcare company for 10 years who were very much in favor of remote work. It saves office space and real estate so for about 7 of those years I was a full time work from home. It has its pluses and minuses. Yes I could sit in my boxers all day and eat twinkies and gain weight, which I did, but I also worked a lot of hours. There was no feeling of separation from work life and home life. When I wasn't busy I slacked. Have my work laptop running and playing warcraft or something on my other pc. Or take a nap in the middle of the day, go out mow my lawn something like that. I saved a lot of money on gas and lunch. So yeah in that sense it's almost not having a real job - but then again during the times when you may end up working all weekend sitting in front of your pc it sucks.
