Canada's economy, it can be argued, has never been hit by any major bust or boom really as a direct result of strong government regulation of the financial market. Nice and stable. Do they have super awesome market gains like we do? No but they also don't have mass suicides every 10-15 years like we do when we hit the down cycle.

Why do you use such an easy example? What percentage more should the brain surgeon earn is the real question. How little should the janitor earn? Should he be able to pay for himself if he gets cancer? I think so. Addressing a discussion over a couple dollar increase in minimum wage with "why don't we just give everyone everything?" seems to be par for the course at this point.

I should reply in equally absurd observational situations going forward. Seems easy and a pleasantly condescending approach to complicated social issues.

The truth is, no president is actually in charge of the economy. Good, bad or ugly.

As someone working and owning a business in a bellwether industry, even the President's bowel movements seem have an effect on whether it is steak or beans this week. But then again, so does the price of gasoline, and so does the weather, and so does the market. However, one stupid idiotic comment from the occupant of the White House, and things go from bad to worse across the board in seconds. It is amazing that anyone takes anything a politician says seriously, but they do.
