We have a chance to attend an outreach to have my wife's name changed on her Philippine passport. But we have not had our AOS interview (waiting for the appointment notification). Since she will have to surrender her PI passport while the new one is created she will have no ID nor will she have the passport for the AOS interview. Is this a problem?

Can we make a copy of all the pages to use for ID and AOS interview?

If we wait and miss this outreach we will then have to make a long trip to the Consulate in Washington DC to do it in person.

Thanks.

I had to renew my ph pass pending AOS and did make a personal appearance at the consulate. I don't recall surrendering the passport tho when I'd done it. They asked to see it and told me I can bring it to the consulate when the travel doc was ready to be picked up so the old passport can be cancelled onsite or I can cancel it myself when I receive the new one in the mail. I doubt they will take your inexpired & valid passport pwnding renewal. They know how important that is to immigrations processes so they'd rather you have it. I think what is more important is the personal appearance. If that's not the case, you can always make copies.

Sein oder Nichtsein, das ist heir die Frage.

Good question.

Hard to say whether it will work out for her. I would suggest that she try to get the renewal accomplished without surrendering her passport.

She will need some form of photo ID for the biometrics, copies are likely not accepted. Does she have any other photo ID available? Here is the link for the biometrics photo ID requirements:

At the AOS interview, the IO can and may ask to view all passports. At our AOS interview, the IO did ask for all of our passports for comparison to the copies we had previously submitted with the I-485 packets. YMMV.

Good luck.

For sure we needed the passport for biometrics, especially to just get in the building as they were checked twice. That's complete now we just will go to the passport name change. I think I will try and text to the outreach and ask. Couldn't hurt. Thanks
