im filling out another i864 for my joint sponsor for the i485. my joint sponsor is my mother, who is married to my father. on page 4, part 5 of the i864, it asks if the joint sponsor is married. i said yes, so it added one number to the household size, making the total 3 (mother, her husband, and the person she is sponsoring). now on page 5, part 6, it asks for the income of anyone else counted in the household size. what i am confused about is questions #11 and #12 on page 5.

_11. The person(s) listed in 6.a., 7.a., 8.a., and 9.a. have completed Form I-864A. I am filing along with this form all necessary Forms I-864A completed by these persons.

_12. The person(s) listed in 6.a., 7.a., 8.a., and 9.a. does not need to complete Form I-864A because he/she is the intending immigrant and has no accompanying dependents.

I was going to list my father in part 6, because he was listed in the household size, and he has an income, but #11 makes it sound like he would have to fill out an I-864 all of his own, which seems ridiculous. Do I need to check either #11 or #12? Can both of them be left blank? I am just confused, because if I didn't list my dad's income, I would be ignoring the instructions in Part 6, asking to list all incomes of those counted in the household size. But I can't remove him from the household size because they asked if my mom has a spouse and she does! Urggg

He has to fill out an i-864A not a regular i-864.

Question 12 is only if you want to use the inteding immigrants income for qualifying towards sponsorship.

Your mother lists him in #6 and then checks the box for #11 on her I-864. Your father will fill out an I-864A to go along with her I-864.
