Hey how is it going guys, I have a question I am currently filing the AOS, I am confused. My brother in law that will be the joint sponsor owns his business, now I ordered his tax account and where it says adjusted gross income it has a number around 14k now he says he has an accountant that files his taxes and does not know how he filed it, he does have 3 houses and around 20k in his bank account. So what do I do, is the 14k gross what I put in the gross income, I dont think it will be enough or will it be ok with the houses and the money in the bank, he is sponsoring my wife and step daughter.

Assuming your BIL doesn't have any other dependents, the 125% of poverty level is about $30K for 4 people. An income of 14K is not going to cut it. If you're using assets in lieu of income, I believe you need 5 times the amount and it has to be accessible (i.e can't use a house that isn't paid off or that you're living in or a car you're driving).

Thanks for helping, I guess I will put my sister as joint sponsor, se is a nurse but the issue is that she recently began working a year ago. She only has last years taxes, would this be a issue or do I need someone with three years?

This might work and if it's the best you can do, you might as well try. Your brother in law sounds like his income is short but you said you ordered his "tax account". What is needed is a "tax return" or when ordering from the IRS, a "tax return transcript". Do not use a "tax account transcript".

Other than for the self employed, tax returns reflect the past. It's good to show a good past but it won't make up for a shortfall in current income. Your sister's current income is probably sufficient and that's the most important thing. However, it's still all a judgment call by a Consular Officer trained to consider the totality of the circumstances, which will include why you need a joint sponsor and why they would think your sister would actually support your spouse, if needed.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
