This is hard to tell what is going on with your petition. You should call your lawyer to ask your current petition status.

Did you receive NOA1 ( I-797 C ) that contains the case number? If you and/ or your lawyer have the case number, then use it to check your status?

When did you file petition?

When your lawyer submitted your paperwork you should have supplied a Check to pay the fees for the paperwork you are filing. The receipt your lawyeris talking about is the NOA1 saying that they have received your paperwork and have cashed your check. This receipt will have the case number that you can use to track the case on the USCIS website.

So it seems that you filed on 12/12/2013 for I-130. It is only 4 months from the date of filing so I don't think you will receive approval notice anytime soon.

What kind of payment did you pay to USCIS ( check or money order). If it was a check, then can you go to your online banking to see whether USCIS cashed your check yet?.

The receipt is I-797C which tells you that they have received your petition and the receipt number should be on that I-797C. People usually receive this form really quick between 1 week to 4 weeks. You can use this number to check your status online through USCIS system.

You need to ask the lawyer about your receipt number on I-797C. PERIOD.

I am going to speculate a little bit about this. It is either the lawyer was just lazy to answer your email or the lawyer is a scammer based on your title " Same answer every time".

This is what you need to be asking your lawyer tomorrow. I see your profile says K3 so is this the Visa you are seeking if so ask your lawyer this.

What is the receipt# of our I-130?

What is the receipt# of our I-129-F?

if your lawyer delays and says he doesn't have it then he did not do what you have paid him for. Its 4 months into the process it takes less than 30 days to get a receipt#.

You need to start being proactive or you will be like so many others having a lawyer and a year later you find out nothing was ever filed.

Call your lawyer tomorrow and report back.

Sounds like you have a terrible lawyer. I'd be surprised if he even filed anything for you. Normally they, or their assistant, can give you an update in some detail.

Remember kids: If a lawyer uses an @gmail.com or @yahoo.com email address, move on to the next one.

For a receipt, I'd guess he was talking about NOA1, but 4 months after the process? Did he forget to mail it out and is just trying to buy enough time to finalize everything and send it in?

Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but I haven't seen too many posts here praising the work of a lawyer, it really doesn't seem necessary for 95% of the cases.
