Flying from Manila to Maryland in June '14?

Hi mga kabayan! Is there anyone here flying from Manila to Maryland (or DC) in June? My mom's visa interview is scheduled for May 15th and assuming everything goes well from her medical to visa delivery, she can leave the Philippines by 2nd week of June. The problem is she doesn't want to travel alone. She's 61 years old, healthy, speaks very little English and as of this writing, freaking out about travelling to the US alone. I cannot go home to pick her up because I just started at my new bank job and the budget is a little tight right now since we are moving to a new house also in June. I was wondering if there's anyone here willing to meet and travel with her?

Thanks.

Beth

Check with the airlines to see if you can get a temporary pass that a friend or relative will use to escort "mom" to the gate through security. Most airlines will accommodate that request. If that fails then request a "wheelchair escort" and they can get her to the plane and board her. Also, if she is changing planes to fly from there onto her final airport destination, then also include that airport in the itinerary with the WC escort. Once on the plane the flight attendants will surely look after her needs. All of this needs to be noted during the purchasing of the ticket. Don't for get to follow-up and confirm that on the day prior to ensure you wishes are noted in her record.

Make sure she has some snacks in her purse for traveling and that all medicines that she takes is in her carry on and not checked baggage. Also, make of list of important phone numbers of relatives both in the Philippines and the USA that authorities can reach in case of an emergency. She should carry these in her purse.

Thank you. I said the same thing to her, discussed with her in detail but still she will not go alone. She wants me to cancel the petition (?!?) if she will travel alone. Aargh...

Well I guess this is a case of leading the horse to the well, but you can't force the horse to drink. cute_smiley24.gif

I hope you can find someone who can travel with her. Good luck.

My tita is the same way. She is 72 years old and is also very shy and doesnt like to travel alone because she feels that she will get lost or left behind by the plane but she has already traveled here to the U.S twice and when she travels we requested for her to be on a wheelchair and she says that is hassle free since the attendents take care of her. Good luck to your mom on her interview.

I'm in Montgomery County (Silver Spring). Is your fiance from Manila? Is it possible for my mom to travel with him? She's not gonna bother him, she will not need help with her luggage or anything. Thank you.
