hi to everyone again. i will be leaving Philippines this coming january 24 and my POE is LAX and will have a connecting flight for JFK. it will be my first time to be out of my country so i think being in a new country and in a big airport will be so confusing to me. i wanna know what i will i do first upon arrival in LAX, im i going to get my check in baggage first or go directly to the immigration officer? the plane that i am going to to ride from LAX to JFK is Delta airlines so i really dont know if the Philippine Airlines will be the one who will transfer my baggage to the Delta Airlines or i still have to get my baggage and have to check it in again. and also i wanna know if i still have to transfer another terminal for my departure for JFK?

your replies will be much appreciated.thank you.

When you arrive at LAX just follow the crowd as everyone goes to the international arrival facility for processing. Your first step will be to get in the visitor que for passport/immigration processing. After you clear immigration and even if your bags have been checked all the way through you will go to the luggage carousel to retrieve your bags. Then you will pass through customs. At that time you will need to get your bags transfered to your next flight. Your arriving airline should have a transfer desk for you to give them your bags to send on to your next flight. If not, then you will need to find the Delta check in counter and check in your bags and receive your boarding card (this may be in the arrival facility or may be in another terminal). Do not be afraid to ask any airline/airport employee for help if you get confused.

YMMV

At Lax ( laid out like a horseshoe) there is one terminal that is exclusively for international flights. It is called the Tom Bradley International Terminal (it is located in the middle of the closed end of the horseshoe.

But most of the other terminals have international arrivals and departures as well. It is quite possible that you will arrive at the terminal that your connection to JFK will leave from.

There is a chance as well that you may arrive at the Tom Bradley International Terminal. If you do arrive at the Tom Bradley International Terminal you will have to change Terminals to Delta. The Delta terminal is not far from The International Terminal. If you come out the front of the International Terminal the first terminal to the right is American #4. The next terminal is Delta #5. If you do not have very much to carry you could walk there or you could get a smart carte for $3 and walk there with your luggage as well. It could not be more than a 1/4 mile.

Lax may seem to some to be a large complicated airport but it is really not. It is quite easy to maneuver around.

The link provided has the map of the terminal and gives the airlines that use each terminal. You can get an idea from this map.

Hopefully you will arrive and leave from the Delta terminal # 5. If not and you need help there are folks all around to help you. It is a really easy and friendly airport.

Good Luck!

Check out this link: http://www.lawa.org/lax/terminalMap.cfm

Delta is in terminal 5 which is just a short distance from the international terminal so unless you have a ton of luggage it should be within walking distance.

Good luck

1/4 mile = a little less than .5km

I have never been to LAX but I have never paid additional in any US airport like you do in some non-US airports.

1) You may pass with out incident,

2) You may simply have your luggage x-rayed,

3) they may do a thorough search of all of your luggage (checked and hand).

You simply do not now.

YMMV
