Just filed dcf manila this morning, was painless, well, minus the not being able to accept cc... found out that when paying, its better to pay in usd. the conversion rate they are using for today is p46/$1, so we saved P777 by taking in usd.

Was simple, the lady started asking for papers, and rather than sort through all my copies, I just gave her the stack and let her pick out what she wanted, and she gave back the rest.

Got the standard 30-90 day speech, and if i want to contact them, to wait about 30 days, if approved they will send it downstairs to iv section.....yadda yadda.....they will send a letter...... ;) yeah, sure.

heres wishing for quick approval, and best wishes to all of us on the dcf tack.. :)

Replied to your other post.

The appointment availability issue is a topic over on the Philippine sub forum. Just gotta keep checking.

As to where we are, were waiting on the wife's passport so we can do the ds-260, and pre register for the medical. Then we'll see if there's anything earlier than the June 5th appointment I was able to grab.

Gents,

I've been reading up on the DCF process, and from what I gather I'm not eligible to apply that route given that I am here on a tourist visa (not permanent resident). I just wanted to confirm that that is in fact the case, and there isn't some exception for the Manila Embassy that would allow me to apply on a tourist visa.

I'm not married yet, but if the DCF was an option we would get married here in the Philippines, vice applying for a K-1 and getting married in the US.

I do meet the 6 month requirement; I've been in the Philippines since retiring from the Army last February. I went back to Hawaii last July to take care of some personal business, but I have been back in Manila since 1 AUG 13.

If in fact the DCF is not an option to me I will proceed with the K-1 as originally planned. Thanks and good luck!

Greg

Have you gotten your extensions? Got any bills in your name? Got your ACR I card?

Being here on just a visitors visa is ok. You just need to prove you've been residing here, Not just wondering around. Once your married, put her name on your account, or the other way around.

Lots of things to help your case, but yes. DCF is an option for you. If you look at the email the embassy sends to those asking about the process, in the attached letter it says this about residency:

Residency: Section 101(a)(33) of the Immigration and Nationality Act defines "residence" as the "place of general abode; the place of general abode of the person means his principal, actual dwelling place in fact, without regard to intent."

- Proof of residency: resident alien card, foreign tax returns, foreign property deeds, rentals and/or leases, foreign business ownership, utility bills, student permit with proof of enrollment, or other proof of permanent residency in the Philippines.

- Filing fee of $420.00 (US Dollars or its PESO equivalent on the day of filing) Only cash or U.S. Postal Money Order payable to Department of Homeland Security or major credit cards are acceptable.

- Proof of Citizenship: A copy of your valid U.S. Passport and/or Birth Certificate. Naturalization Certificate, if naturalized. Form FS-240 Report of Birth Abroad.

They have even taken a copy of one members shakeys card as proof of residence.

Go for it. Best wishes. :)

This thread is almost a month old, you might want to start a new thread with your question.

You can now schedule an appointment online for the CFO counseling session -- not necessary to be in line in the early am anymore.

If you arrive after the scheduled appointment time by 15-20 minutes you should be okay. Have your husband call ahead (63 2 301-2000, ext 2224) if you know for sure you will arrive late. Keep in mind, USCIS is only open until 12:00 Noon.

"Retreat hell! We just got here!"
