My wife will move to england for her master graduation and im planing to move with her.

my questions is :

1) im planing to work there, can i do that with my IR-1 visa or there is an other option ??

2) is that gonna affect my citizenship in the future if i was outside the states ??

Do i need to do anything with the embassy before i go there, because she will be there for 2 years at least, and i wanna be with

her till she finish and thank you soo much for you time.

Why would a US visa have anything to do with the UK?

You will need a reentry permit in order to keep your Permanent Residence if you plan to be out longer than a year. The reentry permit allows you to maintain your permanent residence for up to two years.

Then you will need a separate visa for the UK< probably dependent on your wife's visa.

Yes, this long trip will delay your citizenship.

Good luck.

Good answer. To quantify the delay, every day you are outside the USA counts against you one day. You need three years permanent residency. Leave the US for 30 days and then it's 3 years plus 30 days, and so on. Leave the USA for six months and your three years starts over from zero, upon your return.

My husband is a USC, he has been living abroad with me for almost 2 years, will this affect him? I know he will have to prove his domicile or intent to re-establish but other than that, we are now not sure where he stands.

different kettle of fish,

as the OP is not a USC.

So, since it's different, there's no rule that applies in the same fashion as the rules that apply to the OP.

Even with that said,

if he (your husband) is looking to sponsor you as an intending immigrant with a spousal visa,

then

he needs to study the scant bits in the I-864 about establishing or re-establishing domicile,

and the proof of either must be submitted on or by interview day, even though the I-864 is collected at NVC during NVC Processing/Visa Doc Intake.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Sorry, Darnell. I completely panicked when I saw this post and just didn't read it correctly, also it's 6:30am and have spent hours on VJ tonight at this point lol

Husband will be my sponsor, no income but he has savings, we also have a co-sponsor who is well above the requirments, thankfully.

As for the establishing domicile, are you saying we need to submit this information twice? NVC stage and at interview? I had assumed it was only at interview.

Although husband has a car in the US but with out of date licence and his mail from bank and stuff still go to his moms house we were thinking this won't be enough and will most likely have to re-establish.

I agree with Harpa, check for UK visas instead.

I'm sorry to highjack this thread but I think you're wrong.

I am not sure each day spend out of the U.S is an extra day before you can file N400. I am aware that you need to permanently reside in the country to qualify but I thought you lost eligibility if you leave for more than 3 or 6 months. The idea is not to break the residence requirement.

You're right in that it isn't as simple as that. The guidance is here. http://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/HTML/PolicyManual-Volume12-PartD-Chapter3.html%C2'>

Sorry. system issues. The guidance is here. http://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/HTML/PolicyManual-Volume12-PartD-Chapter3.html

The short answer is kind of long, in that like maintaining permanent residence, ANY absence of less than six months CAN be counted against the end result. The N400 requires one to enter details like start and end date and total number of days for each and every trip outside the USA of more than 24 hours. Then, somebody makes a judgment call.

That's why my advice is to behave as if each day outside the USA counts against your three or five year requirement. Whether it actually will is a judgment call, impossible to predict.
