I have recently been seeing someone that lives in California. I am a Canadian citizen and she is a US citizen.

We are talking about marriage and I am seriously thinking about proposing.

What we need to understand the steps that I need to take in order to move to The US so we can be together.

I currently work for a company that has offices in Canada and the US. But they don't have anything in California which means I will have to probably look for work in that state.

What do I need to do in order for us to be together, and what do I need to do in order to look for a job also?

Any help would greatly appreciated as I don't know where to begin.

Thanks

You can either marry, then pursue a spousal visa,

or

get engaged, then file for a fiance visa, where once you get the visa, you move to the US, you must marry within 90 days, and then you can pursue permanent residence based on your marriage.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Which one is the best case of action? And if I file for the fiancé visa and we will get married with in the 90 days, am I allowed to interview for jobs and would the employer be able to hire me or is there other visa that would be needed for that?

Can you provide me with a link to the Fiancé visa forms?

Thanks for the help.

I would suggest you go to forums and read up on K1 versus CR1 visa it is right at the top...if you click on the links it will bring you to a guide....read it and make a decision based on what works best for you....

GC received on the 28th of February, 2014 - no interview, no additional RFE's

Divorced as of September, 2014

NOA1 for ROC 14 October, 2014

Life goes on, my ex-husband is a moron.

There is no "best." What works for some people doesn't work for others.

With the fiance visa, once you move to the US, there will be a few months of "downtime." You will need to marry and apply to become a permanent resident, and wait around 90 days before your work permit will come through (which is just a stopgap measure to help before you get the permanent residence.) But, the fiance visa is faster than the spousal visa and you would not have to separate after marriage.

Up at the top, you can read the guides section and there is a comparison chart. Good luck.

I seond that. Way too much you need to know that we can tell you here. Read the guides and then come back here with specific questions.

As for the one you already asked, can you work here, yes you can but you need to get EAD first, and that takes some time after your arrival

Good luck to you
