:) Thanks guys.. it's been such a long journey and lord knows I couldn't have done it without VJ. Sitting in the waiting room, I was wondering if there were any other VJers in the room.. would have been nice to talk to them and wish them luck too Perhaps we should have some sort of way of letting people know we're from VJ without like having to stick a huge "HI MY NAME IS" sticker on our shirts haha

Oh and I noticed lots of couples bringing in their lawyers.. the lawyers were all so nice and it was nice to see the way they comforted the couples. My husband and I did everything ourselves tho.. and even with a tricky situation (no K visa at all... married after visiting from Canada for a couple months), we still did an amazing job ourselves So it's proof that you can have enough faith in yourself to get the ball rolling It's not easy, but it can be done!!! Now we wait for the green card.. and decide whether or not AP is worth it. I miss my family in Canada!!

Congratulations..........so happy for you and yours. I've got my fingers crossed that I will receive my GreenCard soon. We had our AOS on September 18, 2006.....we were approved pending the FBI namecheck. When I applied for my Canadian Certificate of Conduct and name check, it took a total of 2 days and that was during Christmas Season (2005)........so I don't know what gives with the American government!!!!!!!!!

And an AP is ALWAYS worth it!! love returning to Canada whenever the need arises (which is quite often for me...lol) I love being home but not with out my hubby!! There's no pleasing me.....lol

My AOS interview is in 2 hours... in Baltimore. My husband and I will be taking the metro there in about 30 mins. I'm so nervous! We sat up all night reviewing files and evidence and photos... blah! I know it's always one of those "easier than it seemed" situations, but we're still nervous wrecks.

I came to visit my then boyfriend as a visitor.. and hadn't planned on getting married.. but when he proposed, I couldn't say no! So we got married and then filed for AOS. It was either that, or I go back to Canada, apply for the K3, and then come here and file AOS, or adjust directly from the USA. We chose to adjust while I was in the USA, after getting married. It meant I couldn't leave the US (which has been hard since I miss my family dearly) but it was worth it.

A lot of people plan to do stuff like this and it's looked down upon here on VJ. It's a tricky situation and one that could go either way. We were lucky. We didn't do anything illegal (I had no intent of getting married when I crossed the border, so I was fine) and so I didn't need any K visa. I just got married, filed for AOS, and now my green card is on it's way.

congrats....I've always wondered how USCIS determines if a couple pre-plans their wedding or if they get married while visiting without planning ......anyway glad it all worked out for you :dance:

Congrats on the approval.

I've always been curious about something every time I read about couples that go the route you did, which is to come to the U.S. with no intention of getting married, then marry spontaneously, and then adjust status.

My question is.... what did you do about your job and home (rental apartment or house you own) and all your belongings after you married and you couldn't return to your home country until your AOS (or AP) was approved.

I visited my fiance often (we only lived 3 hours from each other) before we started the K-1 process, but I could never have just abandoned my job and my apartment without knowing how long it was going to be before I could return to deal with everything.

I'm just curious and would be interested what any couples who adjusted the way you did, have to say.
