Notable is that all these states are in the West.

Most federally owned land is basically land that does not have potential for productivity. That 85% of Nevada is composed of useless land is not really the fault of the Federal Government.

That number is not accurate. The truth is no one really knows the current percentage and there are political forces that want to keep it that way so they can continue pimping that fictional number. Also, a big chunk of it is military land - nukular bomb testing sites that are uninhabitable and then there's area 51. These RWNuckleheads lost their battle with Obamacare so this is their new gig.
