Rahma, please be careful!! I hope you take your husband up on his offer to be your bodyguard. :)

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5

Thanks everyone for your well wishes! Let's hope and pray this ####### is caught soon. If it is a serial rapist, he doesn't seem to prefer one type of woman - the New Years rape was of a 57 year old and this monday's was of a 13 year old.

i watched it somewhere between horrified (I have a special place in my heart for these donkeys) and laughing so hard. I was so afraid the donkey was going to come crashing down to the ground and not land softly like a cartoon character! Whew!

One of the interesting things I found about Morocco is how throughout the country it is an insult to tell someone to work like a donkey EXCEPT in Fez where it is seen as a compliment. My fiance thinks my affection for donkeys is too funny (he is not from Fez obviously :P ) and even funnier when I try to explain my affection for this beast of burden. which if I tried to do it here you would all side with him and laugh at me too I'm sure- except for maybe peezy ;)

Oh, it certainly would not be a compliment with my in-laws from Fes. I have similar feelings for donkeys, and when we went to the medina one day, my FIL was shoving a donkey (way overloaded with crates of coke) out of the way and I started protesting. Later, at home, I expressed how I couldn't understand why donkeys were not respected with how hard they work. It has turned into a long running joke and my FIL will still tease me about it when he calls.

My husband has offered to be my bodyguard and escort me to the bus stop in the morning and meet me in the evening. He even offered to come to the grocery store tonight as my bodyguard :star: He's a sweety.

I hope the local Y starts offering a self defense class.

Take the class you will love it!

When I saw it I thought "poor donkey!!!" I couldn't laugh. I know he was scared up there.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

Last night Usama got scared 'cause a friend of his told him that he applied for a visa and got approved by the embassy but then the ministry of foreign affairs said he can't go because he didn't complete 4 years of university. Usama only completed 2 years so he was freakin' all day. I asked if this guy was married to a US Citizen and he said no.

Oh these a$$holes make me crazy. Khallid would here the exact same thing on a daily basis. Finally he just had to tell himself that these men were trying to make him worry because they were jealous. Tell Usama to tell them to kiss his teasik.

Rahma bringing up the rapist made me think about the honor killings.... rape victims are often ostracized in the MENA. I remember once talking to a Moroccan who told me his aunt had been raped and he said "and she is still part of our family" as if that was some noble thing. Not that I think discussing what would happen in the event you were raped is a typical discussion, but I do wonder how a MENA man (and his family) would handle something like this. I think it is hard enough for a man coming from a society where we try to avoid further victimizing the victim.

That's one of the goofiest things I've ever seen and how they can guarantee hygiene is beyond me. It seems to me that people will end up doing all sorts of things to those that seem very unhygenic.

Goodness gracious, just put a couple of more sinks in. :P

duh

I said, honey...even if you never went to University and took the short bus to the interview you wouldn't be denied due to that because you're married to a US Citizen and as long as you're not some bigtime criminal or have some huge disease you'll be fine.

I hope he doesn't talk to anyone else since this is gonna be a loooong hall.

Try to keep him from the others. That is what is driving me nuts with my fiance right now. Like Moody said, everyone is an expert on visas, especially those that do not have one!!

We've discussed it in the past, and woe be to any man who lays a hand on me, because my husband will track him down and kill him. Literally.

Tamer sounds just like Youssef. If something ever happened to me or the kids he would kill the person no doubt. Stay safe and we have to plan to get together again! I think we will have to come to MSP before Youssef goes home to visit because they forgot to take his I-94 out of his passport when his GC was approved. Maybe then?
