I would trade Rio de Janeiro with Bs As in a heartbeat...

Mos def. Charles have you been to Bs As? It's amazingly beautiful. The people there are much more fashionable and well-dressed than in any Brazilian city I saw (and ahem, really beautiful, all comparisons aside). and there was more cultural activity there than in São Paulo (and more than Rio, but obviously) with adjustment for size.

I also found the people very friendly, although I know Nessa claims a different experience.

never been to argentina. it's on the list of places i'd rather go get a root canal first before visiting. argentina.....france....

Argentinos are famous for being snobs. I don't know if they actually deserve that reputation but the ones I knew on PR were pretty cool che... My sister visited Buenos Aires last year and had a great time she said they were OK.

I have never seen a post with an Argentino user so far...

They only suck when it comes to soccer...

ETA: I am sorry, but it is a known fact...

 true true!

Sol-de-Verano, from what I hear from Luis puertoricans have a grudge with argentinian regarding that. :P When in Rio Luis kept saying "that couple is argentinian, argh!"

Laura,

Yeah, I have to admit that there are tons of argentino jokes on PR about their snob attitude. I only knew a few on San Juan and they were OK but sometimes they could be a bit racist. They were cool with me but I saw them being rude to others.

I would love to visit Buenos Aires someday and also Brasil. Hope to come with that amount of $ someday LOL... :P

The only thing expensive when it comes to Buenos Aires is the ticket, because the peso is so cheap right now you won't believe what you can do with 50 dollars down there..

And you can always try to buy an Argentine for what they are worth and try to sell them for what they think they are worth...

That is always a good deal...

Well, I am not a stereotyped Brazilian either...The first thing they told me when I told people here at work that I might be leaving in a month was: "She came to Brazil to marry an Irish-looking Brazilian?"

Have you ever been to Bs As???

After being there I kinda understand why they think that...

But they still suck when it comes to soccer...

People from Buenos Aires are Itallians who think that they are French, act like the British and speak Spanish...

Buenos Aires is supposed to look very European indeed, as other places in Argentina, like Bariloche.

Yes. IMO, not even comparable to Bs As. Anyone who thinks Brazil is European is just being silly. It's not, in any way, unless you count a town like Pomerode. And then it's not European in the great big-city way I'm talking about. But that doesn't mean that's a bad thing. It's just the way it is.

I think that the stereotype of Argentines being snobs comes from the people of Buenos Aires. But remember, there is alot more to the country than just that city.

Portenos and Montevideanos think they're European and tend to be quite racist and many HATE being compared to other Latin Americans - i.e. Bolivians and Peruvians. It's sad really. I lived and worked in Bolivia/Peru and enjoyed my time there 10x more than my semester in Montevideo. (But the city is beautiful and it's super cheap to travel/shop there - like Reynaldo said). And I LOVE mate...!

Uruguayan mate is much better than the chimarrao from POA - I think.

Wow I just checked the plane ticket prices to Buenos Aires for July and they are around $1,300. But any ticket from where I live (Kansas City MO) is expensive LOL as this is the middle of nowhere! :help:

When would be off season/cheaper to South America?

There are a few cheap travel sites. I found tickets there for 900 for early Oct. I think July *is* off-season for Bs As, right? Since it's cold and all...
