I would like to know whether the USCIS enforces or wants the parents of bride and groom to be present during the wedding? If the couples intend to have a Indian wedding but cannot fit it within the 90 day timeframe, is a court marriage/ceremony enough? Do we have to show that we had taken vows around the fire etc?? Choosing a venue, and all the formalities required to get in-laws' visitor visa within 90 days is proving to be a challenge. Is there a interview process to go through when applying for a green card after K1 and do we have to submit pictures along with the application or is it later that we have to submit those kinds of documents? Your help/experience is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance...

Ralf

For AOS, you do not need to prove you have married following the traditions of your specific cultural background. All they want is an official marriage certificate from a court.

You can later plan for a large wedding, with family, where you follow with your traditions.

The K1 journey:                                                                                                                             The AOS journey:

11/09/2013 - I-129F Packet mailed to Dallas Lockbox                                                                                         06/22/2015 - AOS packet mailed to Chicago Lockbox

02/14/2014 - Case shipped to Embassy, where it waited for over a year at my request                                 11/07/2015 - AOS approved (EAD and AP had already been approved) - there was no interview

05/21/2015 - Interview - Approved

06/19/2015 - Wedding (L)

The ROC journey:

10/12/2017 - ROC packet mailed to VSC

01/21/2019 - ROC Approved - there was no interview

The N-400 journey:

02/16/2020 - N-400 application filed online

02/21/2020 - Paper NOA received in the mail

03/13/2020 - Biometrics

02/02/2021 - Interview & test - Approved

02/05/2021 - Oath Ceremony

The only proof of marriage needed with the AOS paperwork is a copy of your marriage certificate. If you have an interview(50/50 chance when adjusting from a K-1), then bring evidence of financial co-mingling and co-habitation.

All you need is a Marriage Certificate for your I-485 Adjustment of Status application. The traditional Indian ceremony can happen earlier or later at your convenience. However, do make sure to take a lot of pictures during the wedding ceremony (which I am sure you will), and affidavits from a couple of relatives/friends who attend the wedding ceremony. It will be good to submit these evidence of bonafide relationships later when you are submitting the I-751. Other evidence from the wedding ceremony would be - wedding invitation cards etc.
