I just received my green card in the mail, and it says I became a resident 04/10/13...Which is incorrect, I became a resident 04/10/14 (They put the wrong year) which means my removal of conditions is essentially NEXT april, instead of 2 Aprils from now. It should be 2016...I called USCIS and they told me the wait time is 3-7.5 months for a new resident card to be printed!? I need my green card for travelling purposes, to my home country (Canada), and also to Dominican Republic for our honeymoon...

What the heck do I do?

Thanks,

Katie

You must get it fixed. Send in the form with no fee due to USCIS error. In the mean time, you can get a I-551 stamp in your passport that will serve as a temporary GC for one year. You can work and travel with the stamp. Make an infopass appointment to get the stamp. Good luck.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Hi try for an infopass appointment ask them if you could have a I-551 stamp put into your passport so that you can travel, as you are having to send your G/C back for correction

I hope that this has been of some help.

Thanks everyone, so I will not have any issues travelling to Dominican Republic with just the stamp as opposed to the actual green card? I just made an infopass appointment for the first one available, april 30th.

You won't need your GC/stamp to enter the DR. You'll use your passport. You need the stamp to come back to the US. And no, you won't have issues. Good luck. You are still a LPR even though your card is misprinted.

Ditto the above. Did the same thing with my wife's card. Made InfoPass appointment to get the I-551 stamp. Would only give 6 months as they said replacement only takes 4 months (ha!) Submitted the I-90 with original GC and supporting documents. After 6 months made another InfoPass appointment as no GC and web site still said initial review. Got new I-551 stamp this time for 9 months. Was told that replacement GC takes 9+ months due to big backlog. And when we flew through LAX with the I-551 we were sent to secondary and had to explain to 3 different CBP officers the situation (had all our paperwork, welcome letter, I-797 for the I-90, copy of the GC, copy of the I-90 etc.) ROC is coming up soon and Naturalization next year so hopefully we will be done with these folks soon. Good luck!

You situation is not "unusual." The USCIS makes mistakes just like you and I, and this has happened before. You are going to need to be "diligent" in your own record keeping as to when it is time for you to file ROC and later Citizenship. For example, as you continue through the VJ process when applying for the ROC this date might become an issue that will be corrected by the USCIS without penalty to you. Or, it may not become an issue until you petition for US citizenship and, if you have waited the time period for your initial visa for citizenship, it will not be problem and will be corrected by the USCIS at no penalty to you. Don't worry about it, just keep in mind that as some point, someone is going to ask about the dates of when you married and your GC date. Just make sure you keep good records.

Best of luck!
