I have read about people visiting while they wait for their k-1 visa. But they are all from Visa Waiver countries. My fiancé is from the philippines and they currently aren't eligible for that. My thoughts are that while we wait for the interview for the k1 visa. She could come here and visit for a couple months, return to the philippines and do her interview. She has ties to her country such as a bank account with money in it. Contract to return to work. She is finishing up her masters by october in which she has work for many years to get and she is almost finished. I know that there is 24.1% b-visa refusal rate and i'm willing to accept the gamble. I also plan to be completely honest with the visa of course and she will return to her country. What I am concerned about is if she gets refused the b2 visa will that affect the k1 visa? I do not want to jeopardize the k1.

No, it won't affect her K-1 visa approval. I got denied back in 2010. I worked at one of reputable companies in my country, I brought letter stating I will back to my home country, my saving bank account, my credit cards billing statement, my land certificate, and insurance policies.

The consular officer did not even looked up to a bunch of papers that I brought and gave me green paper stating consider filed petition for K-1 visa after I told her that I am going to visit my boyfriend - now my fiancé -. It depends how she can convinced CO that she won't staying there and marrying you. Obviously, my interview ended less than five minutes and I failed convincing the consular officer. But, it did not affect my K-1 visa at all. I got approved.

Thank you so much for your reply. I'm very excited to hear this and I think we are going to apply anyway and risk the $160. It would be much cheaper for her to visit me for a month then it would be for me to visit her. Although I loved my stay in PI. I'd love for her to see what is here waiting for her :)

Applying for a tourist visa will not affect the K-1, but the odds are not good for your fiancee receiving a tourist visa... I think you stand a better chance of winning the lottery.

CO: What is your reason for wanting a tourist visa?

Your Fiancee: To visit my fiance in the USA. (!!!!)

CO: Denied. Next.

There is a 24.1% chance of being denied. It's only $160 to apply. The worst that can happen is it gets denied. But it'll save me thousands on traveling expenses going to visit. So its worth the gamble.

Is that percentage for the embassy in Manila or an average world wide?

For Manila I think it is more like 24.1% chance of being approved.

It's only money and time... have fun.

that % is just for Manila and only b1/b2 visas. That's directly from the uscis.

It is long odds....far too many Filipinas have left their baggage on the carousel and ran off to marry once they arrived in the US....your statement that 'she will return' is not based on fact....mostly because you cannot control her actions once she reaches our shores. The main problem is the incredibly large percentage of Filipinos who made similar promises or offered similar reasons as to why they would return to the PI, but somehow forgot to do so. Having a USC fiancé is a much stronger reason to remain in the US than any job offer or educational motivation to return...most courses can be transferred and few jobs pay anything meaningful in the PI compared to the US...a bank account can be emptied 20 minutes after receiving a visa...so it does not represent a 'strong tie' to one's home country. However, if you want to invest $160, well, as long as she does not commit fraud during the interview, a B2 denial should not affect her future K1 application.

I go with 0 % because she is not going as a tourist but to visit her fiance.

It' s refreshing that you are optimistic. But I would put my money on a denial.

The denial rate you need to look at is that for people in her situation.

I guess I am confused, why is the OP paying for the visa application, she is the one that is applying?
