Is a SSN required in order to get a marriage license? We're in Ohio, if it's of any help... would it be ok to just have my passport and a copy of my birth certificate?

No, it's not a requirement. Although some county and states require this information in their forms, it is not mandatory and you can simply leave it blank.

Requirements to apply for a marriage license may vary from state to state. In my case, I did only bring my passport with visa and my birth certificate. You will need to contact your county regarding their procedure.

All the best!

You will not be required to present your SSN. Just bring your passport along. That will suffice as identification.

Hi,

you don't need it to get married, but as I was told by the guy in the SSN office, it's apparently a big pain in the ### to apply for it after you are married. I didn't ask why as I didn't really care at the time as it didn't apply to me, but he made it sound like it takes a lot longer. Other who have applied for it after getting married may be able to confirm or deny this!

My fiance and I got our cards in about 3 weeks after applying (after getting married). Mine was just a name change so it went faster. There was no trouble at all.

Do not need an SSN to marry in Vegas either. Non-residents/non-US citizens can get married in Vegas. They cannot possibly have a US SSN. It is a popular destination wedding location. You can get married in any state in the US without an SSN.
