Yes, lets reframe the argument because it doesn't fit our narrow understanding of what O'Reilly said and didn't say. Fox News sheeple...sheesh.

Rather, let's write the man off because he's irrelevant, on a cable channel I don't watch and who only comes to my attention (for maybe half a second) when people like you give him publicity. <_<

He needs to get over his rap fetish and realize that it's no different from other musical genres.

And this is where we differ in view points.

Music has the ability in widely varying degrees, to not just reinforce culture but to create it on a wider audience.

Had you studied this a bit you would have agreed with the old quote-

Let me write the songs of a society, and I care not who writes its laws.

Why do you think one of the first areas of control a dictator takes the reins of is Music? They promote songs which confirm ideas and attitudes which support those promoted by the Party.

That you deny "culture" is a huge part of rap music is astounding especially among those who can most personally relate to the themes and artists.

Yet in your mind, it has no more effect or personal impact than say Jazz or Bebop.

Rock never had such influence, most of the time one has to debate a friend what the song is even about.

Country is another genre in which messages and the audience connect on a cultural level as was Punk.

The question is- What is the clear and emphatic message ........and does it effect the attitudes and therefore actions of a sizable portion of the audience? You say no.

As for Bill O'Rielly, I think we can both agree he is wasting his time.

FYI, enlarging the font size does not increase the importance of the message or the clarity of the argument.

The question pertinent to this thread is:

Why did Bill even ask the question to the coach in the first place? Would you assume that all black basketball players not only listen to rap, but listen to a specific type of rap that could, potentially negatively influence the listening audience? I wouldn't but Bill presumably did. What does that say about Bill?

As to whether the question is worth asking? I would suspect that it is judging by the responses this thread has received that demonstrate similar bias to good 'ol Bill, although personally I can live without knowing anything about the guy or anything he says.

I don't know Bills motivation, Maybe he (like everyone else) has watched much of basket ball take on the appearance and police record of street thugs.

Maybe he wanted to know what the couch was doing to keep a handle on it at his level.

So that's your theory is it? That the coAch has to keep the lid on kids who are basically thugs in basketball shirts? Even while the coach explicitly stated that discipline wasn't even an issue? This is a seriously bigoted post. I have no idea why you consider black youth so contemptible, but very clearly you do. That's very, very sad.

Wait a minute.... I thought it was you who equated a attack on rap as an attack on Blacks?

On the contrary my comments are about Basketball players and Bill O'

Are Basketball players the same thing as Black youth now too?

No Danno, I steered you back to what this thread is actually about a specif coach and a specif set of kids. Did Bill make assumptions that negatively characterised the players of a SPECIFIC coach. You started making generalisations which I have questioned you about. Let's try again. Bill was talking to ONE coach about HIS players. He ASSUMED that the coach would have discipline problems and went even further and suggested that these supposed discipline problems were influenced by rap. The coach time and time again tried to steer Bill away from his assumption, that this wasn't an issue. It's still only any issue to Bill, and now you. Why? What is it about basketball that reminds of street thugs? I don't really watch basketball but when I do I am not reminded of street thugs, period.

Oh, and btw do you disagree with the author that the pertinent questions to ask this particular coach, rather than discipline issues amongst his players (when there is zero evidence that there might be such issues and the coach confirmed that there were none) should have been about the alleged corruption issues of the coach himself?
