My wife received her EAD today (employment Authorization Document) When she first came here after we married, applied for her social security card and she got one but with the restriction can only work with approval from the DHS. Now, can we go down to the social security office with your EAD card to have that stipulation removed from her social security card and have a permanent one issue? The temporary one has her ex husbands name on it, now will they put my name on the card that shows on her EAD with my last name ??

Until she is issued her green card, her ss card will have a restriction on it ( only valid with work permit).

The stipulation is not removed with the EAD. The EAD is the DHS authorization needed along with the SSN in order to work. Once she receives her green card, she can update her status with the SSA to permanent resident, change her name on the card and the new one will not have that stipulation on it any longer. Technically, she can get the name changed on it now by showing her EAD and/or marriage certificate, but if you want the stipulation removed, then you might as well wait to do both with the green card.
