Question about going to college

We have planned so that when we get married, I can attend a community college out here in AZ as I would like a change in my career. Does anyone know how this works? Will I have to wait until I get a greencard before I can start college or is it possible to start the course with the AOS is processing?

I'm not sure if it is the same in every state, but here in Washington state, you have to be a "resident" of the state for 1 year in order to get the resident tuition rates. Otherwise, the tuition rates were 3 times higher.

You could contact the admissions office of the college you are planning on attending. We called the admissions office before my daughter (K-2 Visa) started college, and they were very helpful in providing what the requirements were.

I have been in contact with a lot of colleges in Arizona and so far they have all told me that i need to be a permanant resident before i can enrol in any of them.

I went to School in NY, and Here in California both systems have about the same requirement, you have to live in the states for 1 year to qualify for out of states resident. ANYBODY can go to school here, it's all regarding the financial aspect of it, IF you are a resident of the states you will pay resident tuition rate, IF not you will be charged Out of states rate, which is way more than the resident rate

Quick way to go around that, nowadays everything is computerized it's all about the numbers, so play the numbers

Even if you don't have your green card, if you come to visit your fiance, I noticed that you are already here and going back to the UK on the 20th of Jan. What you can do is to create a NON DRIVER ID. Basically almost the same as a driver's license, so by the time you are done with AOS, on your college application you can enter your NON DRIVER ID from whatever state you are in, by then you will have a piece of ID that's almost or about 1 year old

Thanks - Man it really sucks coming to the states - it seems you cant do anything for a long time! I cant seem to find any info about the non-driver id in Arizona. I'm starting yto really worry about moving here now - it seems like a step back

I went to see about a non driver ID and was told that i cannot get one until i am a perm resident. Somedays i feel that it is a step back but then i tell myself that with time it will all come together...right now i cant work,go to college, drive or anything, yes it drives me nuts but i look at my husband and know that it is all worth while

I was just checkin an application form for Pima college and it seems they like to people to reside in AZ for more than one year. Surley they would make an exception for spouses of active military members? They get stationed to different places all the time - it seems so unfair that tey would have to wait a whole year in each place to pay resident fees - does anyone know if colleges waiver this for dependents??

Thank god! Just found out that spouses of military personel are entitled to resident fees in Arizona!
