Anyone think the Kiev Embassy could close if there were war between Russia and Ukraine?

My fiancee and I are a bit worried about the situation in Ukraine. We are in the middle of our application and the current optimistic trajectory is that we would have an consulate interview in the middle of summer. Obviously things cannot be fully predicted, but do any of you have a sense of the various worst case scenarios as far as embassy closures are?

I think that if there is a war between Russia and Ukraine, it is very unlikely that it will reach Kiev. And even if this happened it is hard to imagine a scenario in which the embassy would close. But is there precedent for this kind of thing happening in other countries? I could see the US closing its Russian embassy in retaliation, but not in Kiev which is far from the city center.

This question is speculative, but I would be interested in whether any of you have thought about this. I don't think it's likely, but it is possible and it seems good to think about.

jaygauss....You are definitely thinking rationally about the situation there. I did the same thing. I decided to contact my SVC and request an expeditie due to the situation in Ukraine. Now, you have to prove this, and it is not just how it is impacting Ukraine, or your fiance. You have to prove how it is affecting you...what hardship for you. I have posted my experience with expediting, but ultimately I was successful. I am currently waiting on everything to arrive at the embassy so I can get our case # and complete the process. Remember: this is on you, not your fiance to prove

I'm very glad I posted after hearing what you wrote. Would you be willing to provide me with more details in a private message? I would love to see a copy of your request for example (minus sensitive personal information).

I didn't even know this was an option!

I just did the same thing today, however i submitted a letter to my local senator. I hope to hear something soon from them. I opened a request by calling USCIS and they denied it back in Feburary when things were very bad in Kiev. I am at TSC and things are very slow right now.

I am wondering SINCE WHEN KYIV WAS A PART OF OLD OR NEW (WHAT SO EVER) russia.....my warmest regards to ur wife and hope you two start reading more history (NOT MADE BY RUSSIANS.......). My recommendation is starting from Trypillia, Kyiv Rus, who introduced christianity on the terretories of present Russia,Belorus, Ukraine etc....and please skip soviet books on history.

Ur comments are far from being accurate.

To the author of the thread,

Do not be worried about situation in Ukraine, all will be solved and no pointless intervention of Russia will happen. People who should be wondering what to do should be those applying in Russia and not in Ukraine, All will be good, cheer up and do not over think things.

Hope you and ur compatriot "baron555" will manage to read this in a "foreign" language:

I don't know if you realize how different those two languages are. Anywho, with the help of Google translate i read it. What was the message you tried to convey? What i meant with my comment was that at one point in time it was one country (albeit with very different borders than Russia and Ukraine have now), and it's really semantics how you want to call it. Can you deny that it was so?

I don't have any imperialist illusions and i don't want Russia to 'own' Ukraine or whatever. I have friends in Ukraine for what it's worth and i worked there. I just hope this whole thing ends peacefully and for the benefit of the people and not the politicians.

I'm the beneficiary.

it´s just an extract explaining theories from where word Rus comes from.....i just tried to operate real information and not not offend anyone what so ever. If i say something i try to prove it with some facts not more nor less.

I simply don´t get from where a big part of russians hate and consider as a second sort nation Ukrainians, and really feel pity for people that watch russian news cos it´s complete brainwash....

Me too, have some greatest friends who are russians (from Siberia) and are living in Ukraine and are glad being there cos they can compare life in russia with life in ukraine, any way each person has the right to have it´s own point of view, but this point of view should not be expressed in a way as "baron" did, that i assure you, offend a lot of ukrainians who may read this thread.

Happy Easter to you and your family!

Don't worry, Kiev embassy will not be closed cause any events on East border or Crimea. First of all becuse it serves as a refugee and help point for those Americans who are currently in Ukraine :)

It was working all the time (except 2-3 days) during events on Maydan when everything was WAY bad, cars were burning around US and Canada embassies ). You may even read some reviews left buy couples about their intrerviews during that time http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.php?cnty=Ukraine&page=2&dfilter=5&topic=.

In case of emergency they will just bring some reinforcement to protect people who attent inteview etc. That's all =)

We submitted our 129F and the USCIS received it on 9 April and we have a Receipt number, I check the status almost daily. She is worried about the situation in Ukraine, and Russia continues to provoke violence in eastern Ukraine, I'd say there is a 50% chance of a total Russian invasion.

I read the above post, how do we go about getting the USCIS to expedite the Visa process? She lives in Kiev, the US Embassy is just a bus ride from her flat. She has 2 sons, and all of the papers are in order for them too. They all speak decent English, the interview should be no problem.

We have all of the documents in order, she is basically the Chief Auditor of a software firm, and former professor, she is very meticulous about documents, and we have a good experienced immigration lawyer.

I just need them to speed up the process maybe a month, the boys need to be here in time to enroll in school. If it can be done in 4 months instead of 5, that would perfect.
