i'd be hard pressed to think free argentinian dental care is worthwhile.

and from the pics i've seen of some argentinians, i think they have yet to discover tooth whitening

I don't know, but the surgeon who gave me free dental care in Argentina told me that they wouldn't have done the wisdom teeth extraction in Argentina the way I had it done in the U.S. and she told me my doctor had done a bad job (probably, with dry socket and infection). If it weren't for them, I would have been in a lot of trouble, and they seemed extremely competent.

And yes, Charles, I was pointing out a problem with illegal immigrants when I mentioned the school system sucked dry. Apparently unlike you, I can see both sides. D'oh!

I had the best, least expensive dental care of my life in Morocco. The dentist went to school in Indiana, and he had the newest, best equipped office I'd ever seen. For $300 I had the US equivalent of about $3000 worth of work, and haven't had any problems, and have never had a US dentist question any of the work since.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

And my best experiance was in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

But I of course paid the bill.

Anyone living and / or working in the US illegally should not ever be entitled to any benefit whatsoever. Period. Legal immigrants and legally employed and contributing non-immigrants ought to have their entitlements based on their contributions just like any US citizen. Anything else is #######.
What about their children? Should people working in the US illegally be eligible for neonatal care, for example?

No. Which part of "no entitlement to any benefits whatsoever" do you not understand?

Charles,

A minor child has no choice in where he/she lives. He/she goes where mommy/daddy takes 'em. I don't know about you but when I was young I didn't get to question their decisions :P

A person who involuntarily commits a crime is not a criminal.

The other side of the argument is the illegal mother & illegal father does not have to have a baby here in US.
They should abort their pregnancies then?

Believe it or not, people come here specifically for the purpose of having their baby here. The way things are set-up, they're encouraged to do so. That's gotta stop. Take away the automatic citizenship for the child and and make sure to hand those folks the bill to be paid.

Alex, just give up couple of your paychecks to help those poor illegal famililies out. Dont you feel guilty keeping all that money you make to yourself? If you would just sponsor one family with a hundred bucks a week. Just think how good you would "FEEL" and plus Charles, ET,and I would be eternally grateful! Making decisions on emotions sounds better than making decisions based on the bottle.

Those of us who find no problem with health care for ANYONE who needs it already pay taxes without a fight. I don't see any of us arguing that we should pay less. In fact, I can't be more angry how my tax dollars have been used the last 6 years for an illegal war, but I don't think I shouldn't pay taxes.

Hispanics have been pouring into New Orleans for the past year, working on the Katrina cleanup, both legals and illegals. I admire their desire to work, despite the bad living conditions there. However, at least one NO hospital is $800,000 in the hole for last year, mostly due to obstetrics costs from those same workers. They're facing the possibility of closing down this year. Do any of you think this is right?

I think taking away automatic citizenship for children of illegal aliens is a reasonable move. I don't think taking away ANYTHING except citizenship in name for those kids is acceptable. They did not choose to live in the U.S.

But just because they did not choose to live in the US doesn't entitle them to anything. The kids are the parents' responsibility not mine or yours.

ETA: Children born in the US to legal non-immigrants should not have any claim to US citizenship either. I don't see why a baby born to someone here on a tourist or work visa should be a US citizen.

But just because they did not choose to live in the US doesn't entitle them to anything. The kids are the parents' responsibility not mine or yours.

The minute a child steps into my country, they are my responsibility, as well as the responsibility of all other Americans. We take American children away from their parents for abuse all the time so this is not that much of a stretch.

It may not be ideal, but I'm not going to say "sorry, my tax dollars are reserved for children born five miles north of your kid."

How do you explain your position to someone who does 'play by the rules', sorry you are just going to have to suffer because our budget is taken up catering for those who do not?

Easy. I explain to them what should be obvious to all of you. Adults and minors are not the same. Minors have little say in where they live. They can not be held to the same standards as adults.

By the way, the corollary to my argument is this - that when you deport illegal adults, their children (legal or not) should go with them too. Preserve the family structure over all. Give the children their treatment (you know, so they don't die - it's the pro-life thing to do) and then send em home.

This gets complicated, of course, when the child is an American citizen but the parents are illegals, especially if the child is, say, a young teenager who has lived her entire life in the U.S., has never been to [whereever]. Seems unfair to deport a 15-year-old just to keep the family together.

Automatic citizenship is not up for grabs barring some serious Constituational work (amendment or reinterpretation, depending on who you talk to. I'm thinking it would take an amendment.)

Politically, it's off the table. Morally, it should be, because what replaces is likely a complicated system of second-class native-born-but-not-citizens. The potential for abuse is ridiculously high.

Complicated system with potential for abuse? What? If you're born in Germany, for example, to Russian parents that are not legal residents in Germany, then you're Russian. That's not very complicated and I don't see the abuse potential.
