BUt the question was not if people somewhere in the world might be hungry in 1985, the prediction was that much of the world would be starving as we divided up what little food was produced.

Not only where they wrong, they could not have been more wrong.

As they have been on so many predictions.

Air quality is another one.

I only mention it because some insist that we better believe the latest prediction because it too has the blessing of science.

Are you really this ignorant?

There is both starvation and gluttony worldwide. Open your eyes and look. It really is a very small (relatively) proportion of the global population have more food than they need. the majority are either just on the right side of starvation or well on the wrong side of it.

You resolve your indifference about it by convincing yourself that the haves in this world worked for all that they have, while the have-nots have nothing from lack of motivation and poor personal decision making.

Having been in some of those poorer parts of the world, it didn't take me that much convincing to find that true.

The prediction was that we would see famine on a world wide scale unknown before.

That prediction failed, there are fewer areas of starvation now than there was at the point the prediction was made.

That you can find hunger in the world does not change the facts- No world wide famine due to the lack of ability to produce enough food.

Advancements have lead to much greater crop yield per acre and more effective means to fight crop loss.

And thats is not the only science based prediction to flop.... Need more?

Look at the bundy ranch ... BLM put 50 ranches out of business because of a solar deal with connection of the Democrat senator from Nevada......If every one had 1000 head that is a lot of mouths being not being fed on account of this senator. Children going hungry at night ... Looks like he does not think of the kids.

On the grass versus grain: In double blind tests they are dead even on taste preference... Grass fed generally are more difficult to cook and have more Omega-3 (a good thing). If the tests are not double blind then they tend to favor the political bent of those conducting the test (be they blind or non-blind)...

Meat requires more resources to bring to your table so it stands to reason it will become less of a staple in our diet as the number of humans increase. We have no choice but to switch a higher percentage of our foods to those that give a higher calorie bang for the buck - sugar, corn, grains. We will also need to figure out how to cram more and more calories per unit of land/water/work.. That's reality when you are at seven billion and trending up... It won't be immediate but it will happen slowly over time.

I'd prefer a zero population growth policy myself but I have seen how you people proliferate.

Largely due to a man named Norman Borlaug.. He took his team and know how in agriculture and picked up and moved his family to Mexico, then India, and later Pakistan, China, and now Africa.. He spent 50 years living in areas under threat of starvation. He changed crops and introduced new technology and techniques to improve yields. He is credited with saving nearly one billion people from starvation and won the Nobel Peace prize.

if certain folks don't get on board with alternative energy sources such as solar, hungry kids are going to have much more to contend with than the loss of 50 ranches.

Ignorance is a state of being, not an insult.

As to world wide famine, I think you need to look at the things that have been used up until now to ensure relative food security and what's likely to change moving forward before you can rest easy knowing only 823 million people are currently starving.

Even within raising livestock, there are more efficient alternatives to raising cattle.

Yeah, Cattle are not as efficient in North America as say Europe. They are not really evolved to eat grasses here. Of course that being said, most of the native species were displaced by European grasses through the 19th century.

For instance, those of us who live in Northern California are used to seeing brown hills by May. Originally this was not the case, but as soon as the Spanish arrived with cattle, the ecosystem began a dramatic change.

Being an Azzhole is also a state of mind but I'll try to avoid such terms even when they fit so perfectly.

823 million is a lot of people, what percentage of the world population is that?

I am not discounting the hungry in the world and the need they have I am simply highlighting how predictions based on science can be wrong.

I really do not know what you mean by 'predictions based on science can be wrong;. It does not make a lot of sense. Perhaps you can link to a specific prediction so that we can all take a look at what you are referring to?

There is no shame in being ignorant. I am happy to tell you that I am totally ignorant when it comes to American Football, Baseball and basketball. It is nothing to be ashamed of. Why you think that calling someone ignorant of facts is equivalent to calling them an ####### I have no idea, I have to suspect that's also based on ignorance of the meaning of ignorance.
