I am getting ready to send in my AOS and am currently about a month out of status. I do not have a SSN. I have been reading up on what name to put on the AOS forms. Most people say just to start using the husband's name because there will be proof of your new name on the marriage licence. However, my name is my maiden name on our marriage licence (from the state of VA) and does not show that I took my husband's last name, which was my intention. Should I just fill out the forms using his last name so my GC says that? I know there are spots on the forms for me to put my maiden name, Any help I can get is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!!

On our marraige certificate in NH it only shows her maiden name and we filled out all of her AOS documents with my last name. She got her NOA1 with her new last name. When we went to do the Biometrics she needed to bring the marriage certificate and she had no issues at all that she changed her name. the reason for the marriage certificate if was the only form she had to show my last name on it.

Many states do not show the name you will use after marriage. The marriage certificate still acts as a legal name change document. If you want to take your husband's name, then start using it as soon as you are married. Use it on all the AOS forms so your EAD/AP and green card come in the married name. When you receive your EAD/AP card take it to the SSA and get an SSN in your married name too.

I don't think you have to do anything to use your husbands name, since you are married, you have the option to. I just decided to use it even though on the marriage certificate it just says our original last names. I filled out my AOS with his last name.
