question about filing for citizenship while pending i-751

Hi everyone! how's everybody doing? anyway, me and my wife are still waiting for our I-751 decision. we had interview already on January 2014 with no on the spot decision. our question is, when am I eligible to apply for n-400? we got married june 2011. I became a temporary resident on November 2011 (issue date on my temporary greencard). About 2 years after, applied for I-751 (August 2013, which is within 3 months before the expiration date of my greencard). So this year, I will be eligible to apply for n-400. When can I apply? like what month? Thanks everyone for your help!

Hi you can apply within 90 day's prior to the 3rd anniversary of the issue date of your green card which should be this August 2014

Also, you were a permanent and NOT temporary resident. . You are eligible to apply for citizenship 90 days, not 3 months, before the 3rd anniversary of having your permanent green card. So as the poster said above, I would think it is some time in August. If you don't get your 10-year residency card by then, it FORCES them to adjudicate your case. While it is annoying, you might be one of those "lucky" people who goes from 2-year green card to citizen. Yay!

It's better to count back 88 days from the third anniversary date on your expired green card. Need to send of copy of that and your one year extension as well, plus all that joint marriage stuff you already sent in before. You sign and date the application the same day you mail it.

We found it best to send it in first class mail, they seem to get upset if someone has to sign for it, and also include a personal check. If you do online banking, can track that check and print it out for a receipt to know they received your application. They should put your receipt number on that check so you can track their progress.

If you do not receive your ten year card two weeks before your third anniversary date, have to make an infopass appointment like we did to get an I-551 stamp in your current foreign passport, or bring in two passport photos and apply for an I-94. We did the former, its up to you to keep yourself legal.

After my wife received her US citizenship certificate, she felt naked walking out of the house without her green card. But didn't take her very long to get use to it. Was like having a ball and chain removed from her ankle. Your time is coming.
